Can any one help
I need some waterproofing for my leathers with gorTex
I have used Nikwax liquid in a tin can which worked great and they don't make it any more
I have tried the new one but it has made my leathers go white
Can any one recommend
Thanks

You used this stuff and it's turned your leathers white?

https://www.nikwax.com/en-gb/products/productdetail.php?productid=556&itemid=-1&fabricid=-1

Edit: Sorry I should have said... I used to use any old dubbin (although the Nikwax in a tin was best) and then just said 'stuff it, nothing works well, leathers in drier weather textiles in the wet'

https://www.carrdaymartin.co.uk/product/belvoirleather-balsam/ definitely keeps my black goretex leather trousers black, water repellent and supple. I've heard it can yellow white leather though, if yours are coloured.

Some Gore-Tex walking boot makers recommend aqueous Nikwax on their leather/Gore-Tex boots. Guess it would work the same https://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/nikwax-aqueous-waterproofing-wax-125ml-p107781.

They also recommend regularly rinsing the Gore-Tex membrane off with water to prevent the build up of grains of dirt that can damage it (could be interesting).

Ko Cho Line, another leather treatment, is good to use sparingly occasionally to feed the leather. This one doesn't rot stitching https://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Saddlery-Shop-Ko-Cho-Line-Dressing/dp/B002D1DVM8. Also I've never tried it on white leather - it might discolour it as it's pinkish.

Which ones do?

That general claim seems to be based on the abstracts of a couple of Septic studies that found that some 1920s products slightly weakened cotton duck canvas left exposed to sunlight, i.e. everything you'd expect from Wikipedia.

Ha. No idea. I've been riding horses since I was 5 and it's just something that got drilled in to me by scary horsey mothers over the years.

I understood that the reason for rinsing Gore-Tex items in fresh water was not to prevent dirt clogging the membrane but to dissolve the salts that accumulate in it. Sweat which passes through the membrane is high in salts which are left in the mesh and it is these that cause Gore-Tex to lose it's ability to repel water.

The main problem I can see here is that Gore-Tex likes to be soaked in fresh warm water regularly, leather needs waxing to keep it supple and neither fabric likes the others maintenance regime. If you proof Gore-Tex you defeat it's function
