 |
|
As the title says.
Is there much point in purchasing the bike lock/chain on sale in Aldi this week?
From a deterrent point of view, obviously the more visible security measures taken the better as far as the opportunist scumbag is concerned, but for the ones who want your bike for more than just a rag around the field then torch it, nothing is really going to help is it?
My lad is looking for his CBF125 (parked outside the pub where he works most of the time), so I thought this might help with the tanked up twots who see bike and think free playground toy. ____________________ 2002 Rieju RS2-50 (Sold, spares or repair), 2010 Suzuki DR-125SM (Traded for ->), 2007 Honda CBF 600 (Sold), 2010 Suzuki V-Strom 1000 (Briefly, now returned), 2007 Suzuki Intruder 1800m (Even More Briefly, traded in for ->), 2014 Suzuki V-Strom 650 |

Visual deterrent only, but that's what you want. Alarmed disc / padlock might do the job as well or better.
Root problem is working with pissheads though. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

As said, it's possibly better than nothing but, considering that the Oxford chains are renowned to be made of cheese and are a fair bit more expensive, it may be a waste of £9 but, I suppose it may be worth a punt if he can't afford a more expensive one at the moment.
EDIT:
Just read some reviews on this site. https://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/psa-aldi-motorbike-lock
Overall, it doesn't seem too bad for the money. The lock can be a bit dodgy apparently, so might be worth getting another one to go with the chain. ____________________ There ain't no devil, there's just god when he's drunk.

Cheers guys
Pretty much what I thought.
Enough to deter the petty and pissheads, as he is 17, training and a bit strapped for cash at the mo, I thought an idea to keep his little pride and joy his and safe enough for now.
If we were in a bike crime hotspot, I'd suggest something better, but as said, visual deterrent should suffice for the time being

If you're parked next to another bike that doesn't have a chain, your £9 chain is probably going to make the difference. Unless they really, really want yours in particular, then it wouldn't matter what chain you had. ____________________ Chances are quite high you are not in my Monkeysphere, and I don't care about you. They're referring to a completely different lock and chain.
Last years was a 10mm chain, pretty heavy, with a decent lock. I bought 2 of them.
This years is far lighter, thinner links (probably around 8mm), with an integrated lock.
For the money, it seems alright, its more portable and probably good as a deterrent if you're popping away for 10 mins... But I wouldn't count on it for long term security.
I wonder how easy it would be to knock the plastic coating and lock off. ____________________ A2 Passed 18/6/10 |

For a visual deterrent to pissheads, you may find a cheap bike rain cover more effective. Lidl/Aldi (can't remember which) do one which ain't bad, mine's lasted over a year - beating my previous R&G one! ____________________ Beginner Biker Adventures Blog
