So I am thinking of changing my fz6 08 plate for a supermoto.

Anybody here rode it? your experience and thoughts? I keep reading really bad opinions about this bike but for 1700-2200 quid a 05-08 plate bike with less that 10k miles is pretty damn good deal if you ask me.I have read few good reviews but 90% of them are just dissing the bike big time Laughing

Im not after a fast bike by any means. I just want something fun. Something I can ride on and off road.

Are they really that bad? or do people just exaggerate?

They are heavy and slow.
Bad choice for off road, where light weight makes a big difference.

Can't see any reason to get one over something like an SV650, which is a fairly similar weight, but much more reasonable power for the weight.

But yes, if you're considering value on a per-kilogram basis, they do quite well Wink.

It's not a Supermoto. Just downhearted the fz6.

It runs out of puff. Gears are too short. It's slow. It is budget. It's nasty

48bhp and a motor that is essentially 20 years old if not more for modern bike money, no thanks

The airbox is under the seat which limits fording.

You'd be better off with an X Challenge. 30kg lighter, and 6 more horses. No faster mind.

If you want a supermoto there's the x Moto, but the Duke 690 would be my choice.

My brother had one, never serviced it, never cleaned it, crashed it many times and put 40,000 on the clock, it never once broke down or had any issues apart from ones he caused.

if you where after something to commute on a roads into town then be able to blat through traffic pretty well with little to no maintenance I would recommend it. He did 80mph on it up and down the a3 daily with no issues.

The wide bars will be limiting in tight traffic.
The low powered engine will be limiting in faster traffic.

My son has one, he has been riding it since October when he passed his A2, he loves it, it got written off in December, the insurance lent him a XJ6 which he liked a lot but he was looking forward to getting his XT back and repaired ( which we did quite cheaply).

It's probably not the best supermotard style bike ever, but he loves it, it makes him smile, and the angle's he can lean the thing in corners scare me. it's probably not everyone's cup of tea.

The bike does have issues, one being the very jerkey light throttle running, this can be fixed 90% with a "Kev mod" ( a black box that mods the o2 sensor signal), the front fork seals are shit too, replace with some that are non Yamaha and you'll be allright, I rode it around for a while before he passed his tests and I enjoyed it, quite a laugh, tall for me though.

When your listening to opinions about bikes, the most valid ones come from people who live with the things, the XT660 seems very marmite amongst the general biking population.

Listening to opinions of people that have kept bikes for long periods is generally a good way to convince yourself you're making a good choice, seeing that such people are likely to be the ones who like them.

Solely listening to such sources is however probably a fairly poor way to judge a bike in relation to other options.

If you must have a single buy a similar aged Honda 650 dominator, it is the better bike, I like the Yam 660 in the supermono form of the SZR660 but it was never as good as the Honda XBR500, another option if you like the 660 motor is the MZ Baghira which came stock with superior WP suspension and great brakes, miles better than the Yamaha XT effort with its "jimmy the hinge" flexible frame and budget suspension and brakes.

The ex's brother nearly got killed on one. I rode it a few days earlier found it to be lumpy, slow & generally unpleasant to ride despite it looking cool as fuck and making a nice noise.

Buy a KTM Duke 2. It did offroad, onroad, stoppies, wheelies and made anti-social noises that nearly earned me a punch in the face from mummy chav for upsetting her child. Yes it has a funny face, however in that funny face is headlights that actually work in the real world, and it does also have a proper seat thats comfy enough for touring.

Sold mine for £1800 and have been fucking annoyed with myself about it ever since. Without a doubt one of the best bikes I've ridden and I miss it. The world's smallest violin player, just for you!

There was a test in one of the magazines recently where the 2014 Duke delivered over 74mpg beating everything else it was measured against including the BMW 650s.

You'll be underwhelmed by the power after a few miles. Buy a KTM instead.
