I'm looking for a 2 person tent for my motorcycle travels with which I want to be able to use all year except winter. It should be relatively small when packed up. Other than that my only main concern is that it is a two shell system.

Any recommendations? Thumbs Up

Vango Banshee 300 is my tent of choice for camping solo or two up (additional space for luggage too) can be had for £100ish brand new or much less for ex displays (got mine for £50 on eBay).

Although its more than adequate for 2 the OH prefers we use her Gelert Rocky 3 which offers more space then the Vango been a dome tent but is of weaker construction/quality (been through 3/4 replacement poles & the outer is too short to cover the back fully leading to some leakage) but can be had for £40 & is overall a good tent for the money.

Thanks for the tip!

I watched a review for the Vango just now but I'm afraid it might be too short for me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e_zMxrj9_Wk&t=431

I am 6'3. What would you say? Is this tent to small for me?

Well I'm 6'2 and have no problems lying down in it but can only just to say sit up in it (I usually bring a tarpaulin along that I wrap around my dry bag on back of the bike which I hook to the tent and suspend with a spare pole to create a use able porch).

I like the Banshee as well, and am also 6'2'', but usually use it on my own, not sure about space for two when one of you is big. The only other thing I don't like about it is it has no porch to speak of, so if you're doing a brew, it's inside, so have to be careful. Usual rule of thumb: 1 man tent, big enough for a small dog, 2 man tent for one, 3 man tent for 2 etc.

Vango tents are mostly pretty good, pack relatively small, quality is good, and usually pitch outer first, always a bonus if you arrive in pissing rain.

I use something similar to the Vango Banshee. Been using it for the BCF BBQs and when I'm off for camping trips. Packs neatly in my Kriega R30 rucksack, along with sleeping bag and bits and pieces. I would have gone with the Vango Banshee, but Mountain Warehouse were offering these for £50 at the time! Great piece of kit when it comes to BCF BBQs.

Bought a Quechua Forclaz from Decathlon which folds up into about a foot-long bag, could be stuffed into a spacious top box/pannier

£49 from shop:

https://www.decathlon.co.uk/forclaz-2-tent-id_8300050.html

...I just need a motorbike to use it with now Embarassed

Edit: you're 6.3 so might be a tiny bit short for you

I've got a vango in the garage, it's only been used twice. Can't remember which one it is. It's a cosy 2 man and packs tight. I can see which one it is if your interested, I don't use it tbh so would be prepared to sell it on

I posted it in here because it needs to fit on my bike. Ideally I want to be able to stow it away in the panniers but I moved away from that because after some research I found that that is highly unlikely.

I like Khyam tents as they are quick to put up and get down.

How much do you want to spend?

Vango spirit 200 is excellent and packs very small.

Vango Halo 200 is very roomy and self-supporting but has a larger pack.

Queshqua popup is excellent because it only takes a few seconds to errect but you need to find room for a 3 foot disc on your bike.

As stinkwheel asked, how much do you wanna spend?

It reads like you need something pretty bomb proof for extensive travel and use.

I just bought one of these, reasonable weight for a durable easy and quick pitch tent, porch area is functional enough, I like the extra height over the next option I give.

https://www.vaude.com/en-GB/Products/Tents/2-Person/Odyssee-L-2P-green.html

Two of my mates have the ones below, I can vouch for them, and one pole less to erect than the Taurus, depending on model variant (L2p or 2p) may be lighter or heavier than the above.

https://www.vaude.com/en-GB/Products/Tents/2-Person/Taurus-2P-chute-green.html

Shop around and I would guess £60 - £90 less than list price.

I like that, a smallish silnylon tarp would take up hardly any weight or space, need to add that to my kit options, Thumbs Up

Have a look at the Go Outdoors web site as it gives the tent sizes

https://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/camping/tents

I got a cheap Hi Gear Neutrone 2 a couple of years ago and its good enough for the wife and me but a squeeze with luggage. Great wee tent for one and when packed up you are lucky if its 15" wide. Buy a discount card if using go outdoors as the 5 quid outlay will save you a lot more at the till.

My only advice is that you invest in a damn good sleeping bag. It can provide more warmth per weight if travel load is an issue.

I have a Vango Storm 300+, its supposedly a 3-man tent but I like to spread my kit out. Has a front and back porch. I have regularly strap it to the back of my bike, I think pack weight is 4kg. Thumbs Up

Getting yourself a decent air mattress is the way to keep warm, with even a sub-standard sleeping bag. I invested in an Exped airbed and its the bees-knees. Thumbs Up

I agree, this can make a big difference. I used to use a cheap Millets airbed, then tried a Pacific Outdoor one, but both punctured too easily, and ended up with a Mountain Equipment thermarest-style thing, and the difference in warmth this gives is surprising. Bit more bulky packed than I'd like, but not too bad.

I'm going to get one of these to replace my Vango Equinox

https://www.vango.co.uk/gb/2-person-tent/229-pulsar-200.html#

Its great. got a big porch so you can get changed or store wet gear in. Packs down small too. I've been using vangos for years and they're pretty good in storms thanks to their TBS system

I'd avoid kyam tents. they're not too good in wind. Here's a video of my vango verses my mates kyam in some wind at Stromness.

Properly guyed that Khyam would have been OK I reckon.
