Narrowed my choice of first big bike down to these two. Insurance is similar, £500 for the ER6 and £600 for the FZ6.

Seen an ER6F for £3500, 2010 model with <1000 miles.

Alternatively, FZ6 £3500, 2009 model with ~3500 miles.

Will I regret no screen?

Talk to me.

Jesus Fnatic, taking your time arn't you with this whole bike thing, you were on an RS125 when I was on a moped 4 years ago I believe! And test ride them, it's the only way to know... you will just know which one you want after a test ride.

Stopped riding after my CBT expired in Novermber 2009 and just did my CBT again last month and getting back into biking again as my circumstances have changed.

Where will anyone let me loose on their FZR or ER6F?

I have a naked FZ6 with a small screen on it. I absolutely love it. Never ridden the ER6F so I can't comment, but I would recommend the FZ6.

No personal experience with either but the ER-6f/n are raved about as first big bikes, often given the title of "class leader". As always - best to get test rides on each and make a personal decision though Smile

If you're using it for fun then the FZ6 will be better than the ER6. If you're commuting then the ER6 is probably better.

FZ6 every time, more power, you'll take longer to get bored with it and residual value

FZ6 6k new, deals around 5k

ER6 were going for 4k new last year

there's loads of both models on the market because they're both available on 0% credit, the FZ will be worth more when you come to sell I reckon

Fz6 all the way. I used an er on my driving test and they are Pretty boring. Isn't an fz6 a de-tuned r6? I think it has the same braking system too.

I'm sure it will be more than adequate for commuting.

A detuned R6 motor from the 2003-2005 R6 (Or 5SL if you prefer).

I've had 2 ER6F's and think they was both fantastic bikes, really easy to handle and throw into the bends, and are a really comfy ride.

Have now gone with the GSX650F and think that this beat's this bike hand's down, have a look and a test ride it's a lovely bike.

Which bike did you go with in the end Fnatic?

I'm stuck between the ER6F or Fazer for my first bike!

Have you seen this review? It seems the FZ6R wins according to this but I'd imagine either would be great to own.

Nice thread resurrection.

I haven't ridden the ER6 but have the ER5 which is fairly different. Can't say enough good things about the FZ6 though, it's like the R6 toned down for commuting but still plenty enough power to be fun and not as heavy as the similar XJ-6 or FZ6R.
