I followed a few twats on my commute today, all of them on scooters, but that's surely just coincidence.

I followed two that were riding along with their feet inches from the ground for miles on end, one kept bringing them up and down seemingly at random at speeds below 30mph, the other was content with them dangling, practically skimming the road all the way up to 60mph.

I followed another who had a pretty flat tyre (like 10psi flat).

I followed another who several times over the 5-10 miles I was behind him wedged himself through three of four tight-and-closing gaps between cars, vans, and lorries, to the extent where people were slamming on their brakes for genuine fear of squashing the pleb.

So, if you had the opportunity at, say, a set of traffic lights, would you say something to any of the above?

For the record I didn't, there wasn't a chance to, though given the opportunity I probably would have mentioned the tyre.

Flat tyres and rear lights out, thats all I ever bother with, only if I'm at traffic lights mind.

I'd be too busy revving the engine and slipping the clutch, waiting for the green light to drop, so that they don't leave me in their dust.

Oh that. The toss up is leaving them to it or shouting at them. Very rarely I go for the latter, like the other day when this ped rider cut me up on a roundabout and I said something like "Obs, boy, obs. You've gotta keep your eyes open!" Wrong lane for pulling a left, nearly elbowed me as he was not looking, think I was justified.

Agree with this. I've also mentioned indicators left on (another very common sight), once or twice.

Tyres, lights, leaking fluids, otherwise just shake your head sadly and tut in a world-weary, country's going to the dogs, never would have happened in my day, sort of way.

They'll wise up if and when they wise up, and a lecture from some boring old duffer isn't going to speed up that process.

Yeah. Flat tyres, leaking fluids, bits hanging off, on fire.

The latter was quite entertaining. Bloke on the road into Glasgow from Helensburgh had obviously driven some distance with his handbrake on. Car wheel hub was physically on fire with actual black smoke and flames. Filtered up next to the bloke in traffic, gave it the "wind down the window" signal and got blanked. Pointed frantically at rear wheel. Blanked. Then he drove off again.

I eventually had to physically overtake him and block the road in front of him to make him stop and wind down the window.

You didn't 'have' to do that. You tried to tell him and he ignored you, I would have thought b@llocks to him and left him to it.

Why didn't you just follow him until the inevitable end, then point at his burning wreck, laughing like Mutley and ride off full of glee?

I'd have followed them until the bastard was a flaming ball of pain and then explain to the inevitable circus 'I tried to tell him, but he just blanked me'

I pulled up to an elderly couple last night as they were going down the interstate with no lights on in pitch black, looked at them, flagged them to look at me and they refused and put their foot down.... so I came up beside them again and pointed at my headlight... they then got the hint and thanked me lol

We aren't all evil bikers trying to tear up the road!

Also told a woman a few weeks back she had no brake lights (common here)... "What.. none?" "Nope!" "Oh... ok" then drove off... psht

People here are notoriously bad for leaving their lights off. People don't realise that lights serve two purposes. One being that people can see you. A few times I've had to pull alongside cars and point at the lights, once on a pitch black road which was unlit...

I don't know if it's law for cars yet, but I don't think that cars should have the option to turn lights off, same as bikes. I don't see why not.

Depends on my mood. But I have told a guy in an open top car that his indicators don't seem to be working on his very expensive car... penny dropped really quickly and he apologised.

Point at lights / tyres if I catch someone's eye, if its safe to do so.

Might say something about flat tyres, fluid spills etc. at traffic lights, but I wouldn't say anything about the way they ride - leave that to the cops. I can't be arsed with the hassle. Thumbs Up

In a similar situation to this in slow moving traffic on the M25 whilst in the works van we saw a chap in an audi A3 and the left rear disk was glowing red, smoke pouring off of it.

We told him and he didn't seem that bothered...just carried on.

built after a certain date they have to have some front lights permanently on

my 'fog lights' are permanently on, go off if I turn the headlights on, come back on brighter if I turn the fogs on.

tail lights only come on with headlights

number of new cars I've seen with LED front daytime lights at night without proper lights on is beyond belief - don't think they realise the rear lights aren't on.

I wouldn't say shit unless by coincidence we stopped at the traffic lights together and both had our visors up. It's their responsibility to make sure they got their shit sorted, not mine.

If they're on fire or have a puncture or something dangerous, I'll mention it. Had someone mention that to me and I'll always be thankful to them.

On the flip side, I went past a stationary bus which was properly on fire. I shouted at the driver but he just shook his head. Never figured that one out...

Umm yes but, I have to admit that I was quite grateful when another biker let me know that I had a huge screw in my rear tyre, just before hitting the mountain section of the TT course.
