Evening all. I have just got myself a suzuki gp100. It is for a full restoration which will happen soon.

I have restored my classic mini so my mechanical knowledge is ok but i have never touched a bike before let alone restore one.

What i want to do is get it starting and rolling etc before i strip it down so i know it does actually work.

So at the moment it turns over, there is a spark, fuel is getting to the carb but its not starting.

My initial reaction is that its not getting any air but i have no idea where the filter/ air intake is, does anyone have a photo or able to explain where to look?

Any other ideas as to what is going on? I assume its a dizzy with points, but where is it? I think its under the tank but this seems like a massive hassle to get off. Also is there anything of interest under the seat? I have no clue how to get the seat to flip up.

Thanks a lot for any help. Pics from me will come over the weekend!

The carb is on the RHS (brake lever side) of the bike on the end of the crank (inside the engine casing.) Follow the throttle cable down and you'll see that's where it ends up. The big rubber pipe coming off of it goes to the air box/air filter.

Got the carb, managed to find that earlier. When you say big rubber pipe, how big are we talking? 5mm? Slightly confused by there being just a hole and then the engine cover where my mini orientated head is saying there should be an air filter.

At a guess I'll say your pipework is missing as it should exit above the carb and head up and backwards to the side panel area which is where air filters tend to be on bikes. The best thing would be to get hold of a manual for it as well.

Look at the top of the kickstart.

See the chrome thing with the pipe going down to the carb? (Pipe is at least 1 inch diametre)

That's the airbox.

Cheers, that makes sense.

I have a friend coming over on sunday to lend a hand. As long as i can get it started and all working ill be happier taking it all apart.

Btw, that last post is pretty much my level, pictures with labels haha

have you trying putting a bit of petrol down the spark plug hole and see if it starts?

Could be the ignition timing is out or these have a disc valve just behind the carb the timing on that could be out.

But i would definately start with the easy stuff.
1. Put a bit of juice down the plug hole and see if kicks over.
If it does try new petrol and clean the carb. Its also possible that the
2 stroke oil pump is sending to much through so that might need adjusting.

2. to eliminate the airbox idea just take the carb cover of the side will have plenty of air getting in then and see if it helps

Let me know how you get on.

Ive been fixing mine up for months just got it MOT'd last week first trip out and oil everywhere back inbits now lol

Tried putting some fuel down the plug hole, no joy. On further inspection ive found that the choke cable will not budge (carb end) so feels like something is stuck.

How do i take the carb off? It feels like there is a bolt running all the way through to the other side of the engine which needs undoing, is this correct?

Will have a look at the oil pump if i can find it.

Also, on top of the oil resevoir there is anothe white plastic container. Is just open on the rhs and has a small hole on the lhs, what is this for?

Yea ive got their schematics. Overall, i think i know what bits do, but having never touched a bike before its all just a bit new.

Carb i managed to get off, didnt realise it was just a pipe clamp thing as im used to carbs being bolted to a manifold etc. carb is all good, works and is clean.

Still no joy with it starting up. There is a spark, fuel getting into the carb, air getting in etc. not sure what else it could be.

Ive done a rudimentary compression test similar to the way i tested my mini, removed the plug and shoved my finger in to block it, turned it over and it seemed alright.

I have a motorbike savvy friend coming over tomorrow so hopefully he can figure it out. Otherwise ill be a bit stuck.
