Was entering a roundabout joining a motorway, 2 nsl roads and a dual carriageway today. Pulled off and the siren went off behind me, the car pulled in front of me and stopped me on the roundabout. Switched off my engine and sat for two minutes then took off my gloves and helmet, at that point he just shot off leaving me sat on a busy roundabout with no helmet and no clue as to why I was pulled.
Anyone have any idea what the cock was up to?

^ This

It's happened to me before, radio call came over whilst they were searching the boot. They said 'Your lucky day' (wouldn't have made any difference, wasn't doing anything wrong/carrying anything I shouldn't) and fucked off.

Are you not supposed to find somewhere safe to stop if they want you to pull over?
I recall driving about 1/4 of a mile before stopping once. Unfortunately it was Billly Bigballs turn for the personality hat and when he gave me some grief about why I hadn't stopped earlier I asked him what sort of a wanker stops where he first gave me the blues and twos - it would have been dangerous for all concerned - luckily for me he didn't need much convincing about the validity of my argument!!! Laughing

That's why I'm a bit pissed. He pulled in front and stopped me on the roundabout when there was a side road 20 feet down the road Only to leave me on the roundabout with no lid on

I believe (and I havn't looked at the legislation) that as long as you acknowledge them and make it obvious that you aren't trying to scarper then its acceptable to find a safe space (not nessecarily in terms of traffic, but somewhere that people are present - like a petrol station) to stop in a reasonable distance. You certainly do not have to stop for an unmarked car with plain-clothes police in immediately.

Obvs no legislation quoted there so its at your own risk!

They've been doing "roadworthiness" checks in around Stirling, it might be an ongoing operation. Bikes are prime targets because of small plates, exhausts, tyres.

Start of spring though: could just be out there winning biker hearts and minds. Rolling Eyes

https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1988/52/section/163

Quote:

163 Power of police to stop vehicles.

(1)A person driving a mechanically propelled vehicle on a road must stop the vehicle on being required to do so by a constable in uniform or a traffic officer.

(2)A person riding a cycle on a road must stop the cycle on being required to do so by a constable in uniform or a traffic officer.

(3)If a person fails to comply with this section he is guilty of an offence.

Doesn't say traffic officer needs to be in uniform.

Road policing is a priority though, and a soft target. More FPNs and easy convictions, less stabby-stabby.

I'll have to tell Rogerborg about the time I got stopped in Brixton in my Sirrocco on a Sunday morning (having spent the night in Slimelight and the night before in The Fridge) if he comes to the next Bbq...

Oh well, probably nothing to do with you, wrong place wrong time...

Mebbe he was notified of an emergency just before he caught up to you and then he had to stop to answer his missus on the phone who wanted him to pick up a loaf of Hovis on the way home Rolling Eyes

How are you meant to know it's a traffic officer if they're not in uniform?

The advice they offer, if you are unsure if they are police, is to acknowledge them and ride to somewhere where there are other people (supermarket / petrol station / police station etc) and that at some point they may well call for a marked car just to help you work out that they are genuine.

I suspect they'd claim they'd only use that offence if you buggered off saying "Didn't know it was coppers".

So in essence they want you to pull over for some criminals, who've fitted some blue lights to their car and are going to pull you over and steal your bike, on the off chance they're real coppers. Judging by how slow real plod arrives at thefts etc I'd imagine when they finally pulled into the Tesco car park they'd find your body in the bushes. Eventually.

I think I would have given them a thumbs up to acknowledge them, jutted my hand forward to indicate I was moving on to a safe place to stop. Then bored the pants off of them about the joys of motorcycling in late middle age. To be fair they do often have a sixth sense for dodgyness and if they didn't stop people for apparently no good reason they'd miss a lot of opportunities to nick criminals.

Why take your lid off? He didn't get out of the car or ask you to. I would have sat there with it on until told otherwise. Exclamation
