Ok, I have got rid of the 4 wheeled thing and I'm choosing to be a "hardcore" year-round biker. What kit do daily riders keep on their bikes?

I have a small compartment under pillion seat big enough to hold a kebab box. Thumbs Up

I keep a disc lock, a tie down strap and side-stand pad for soft ground in mine as standard. If I'm away for the weekend I'll throw a toothbrush and a change of socks/undies in there as well.

Enfield:
Funnel, bicycle pump, 2 x adjustable spanners, multitool, cable ties, screwdrivers, 1 rubber and 1 nylon washer and a 2p coin (carb drain plug, for the sealing and tightening of).

GS:
Plug-n-go mushroom kit. Pressure gauge. Spare bulb. Bungie cords. Front brake pads. Collapsible camping shovel for burying poo.

You probably shouldn't draw any conclusions from these lists. That's just what's in there at the moment. You did ask though.

How long do the plugs last Roger? I presume it is just a get-you-home solution? I was thinking of getting one of these kits.

Absolutely zero use to you without a pump (which strangely enough roger has - in his other bike Laughing ). They should last the life of the tread if you put them in properly and have no qualms about running on a plugged tyre.

I've only just taken the time and bother to purchase necessary items. It's amazing that one can go so long without incident..

On my Honda cx500 i've updated the toolkit by adding a tubeless tyre puncture repair kit to what I have on it already, being a spare headlight, phillips screwdriver, 6" adjustable, pliers, spark plug tool and two spare sparkies, a spare fuel line, spare throttle cable, clutch cable and speedometre cable, oh and also a very old tyre pump. Recent new work place requires the route of passing through a few industrial estates and past a couple of gypsie camps, the roads are terribly awful and any filtering is over gravelly mid sections of roads, possibly with whatever else that might be lying about. Used to carry a spare litre of motor oil as long journeys do burn it somewhat. But that's not really too necessary anymore seeing as I don't do 300+ miles a journey anymore. Merely 35.

for the MZ, I have got two 12" tyre irons and an original mz tyre iron (which handily has a C spanner for the clamp on the exhaust header), a small tyre pump, a puncture repair kit that includes 10 patches of various sizes, a spare brake light/illumination bulb/indicator bulb (brake and illumination are single filament each), and a headlight bulb, spare clutch cable, 6" adjustable spanner, pliers, a spare tube, some spare spark plugs of varying temperature, spare fuses, and a flathead screwdriver. I think that's it. the only thing i know I am missing is a bottle of fairy liquid to make on the fly tube repair an easier job.

Bungee cords, cargo net, 2 metres of 16mm almax chain, and a microfibre cloth for removing some moisture from my seat when it's wet. Spare earplugs.

If I'm touring, add spare bulbs, rubber string tyre repair kit, CO2 tyre inflator kit and some spare levers, if I have them for the bike. A minor drop will probably bend a lever, but if it snaps, that's probably the end of the holiday unless I have a spare. Spares are normally previously bent levers.

Oh and comprehensive Euro RAC coverage.

General small tools, depending on bike - spanners, allen keys, a couple of little multitools.

Couple of bungees, some cable ties, the end of a roll of gaffa.

First aid kit (from "First Bike of Scene" training).

Fuses.

And the only bits I've really actually had to use: mushroom-style tyre plugs (they last the life of the tyre usually, whatever it says on the tin) and a small compressor - got sick of pumping up the back tyre in the rain (it's always raining when I get a puncture...)

I was being honest, rather than helpful. Note the lack of tyre irons or puncture repair on the Enfield. Wink

Sure, life of the tyre. I'd suggest the mushrooms over the strings as I've had a mushroom seal a puncture that had already eaten two strings.

Under seat:
Standard tool kit (but generally too small to be very useful)
First aid kit (for when people bleed).
Mini can of WD40 (after spending 20mins trying to defrost the ignition barrel one winter evening).
Puncture repair kit and air canister (for when I get shit in tyres).
Some bungies (in case stuff falls off/doesn't fit in top box)
Spare asthma inhaler (to deal with London smog).
Soft cloth (to clean shit off visor).
Scribbled down tyres pressures (for when I have a brain fart).

Top box:
Chain/padlock (fecking tea leaves)
Sarnies (too skint to buy lunch everyday)
Jeans and converse (as you look a tit sitting at your desk all day in leathers).
