...the first automatic brake lamp. Confused Thinking

I actually wanted to post this in the ''A Joke A Day'' section, but then I thought it'd be off topic. Thumbs Up

That's... actually a bloody good idea. Thinking

I mean, if you have a separate tail and brake light and never ride in the dark and trust a Septic made technobulb to not fail when you need it most and your idea of riding safety is to wear a t-shirt and pisspot lid.

Sort of want, but I'll wait for the £2 Chinese copies.

Actually... 1-axis 12v accelerometer would cost how much?

I kind of see the point, but I think it'd look daft if it flickered on when changing gear or something... it'd need adjustable sensitivity I think.

Curiously I was thinking about building something like this just the other day. Although the idea was to use led lighting strips sewn onto the back of a chest harness. An arduino flora, an accelerometer and some neopixels would do the job nicely , and quickly.

Great idea, but would really want to see some reviews / tests etc. American roads are very different to ours so would like to know as others have said, would it keep flickering?

If it's American made, I imagine it'll only flicker once.

$60 Shocked

It has a 'battery' (presumably a capacitor) that's charged every time you use the real brakes.

Sounds like the Chinese copy is the best bet...

Well, I've never expected people to actually like the idea. I posted it on the BCF as a joke. Razz

By the way, some hybrid/fully electric cars with recuperation systems already use such a thing. I saw an article about BMW i3 and Tesla S, the recuperation slows the car so much and so quickly, that you can basically drive the car with only one pedal. So when you let go off the pedal and the car starts to slow down, due to recuperation system, it lights up the brake lights.

Surely a brake light that comes on without the brake being applied would be a MOT failure?

It wouldn't happen in an MOT as the bike isn't decelerating...
