Don't really know if this is a problem or not but the front brakes on my 05 plate zzr600 can quite un nerve me, when the bike has been parked up a while the brakes make a sound and feel like theres maybe something catching or theres something on the tyre going up into the mudguard when the bike gets moved again.I have dropped the calipers off and moved the bike and looked at the pads, they are ok, theres nothing under the mudguard, the front wheel spins freely I can't see anything that could cause this. When the bike has move a couple of yards the sounds have gone, not to return until it has been parked again. Could it just be down to the pad material and would a different make of pad cure the problem?

Don't worry about it, pretty normal.

My zed does it every morning Smile

the first time was pretty un nerving, I had to stop and take a good look, and ride like a wuz to get home, its like a tinkle or grating sort of sound, but only for a few yards, I thought it may be "normal" for the bike / pads. Thanks Nemo for sort of calming my fears.

Always a good idea to clean the caliper out though. I usually do them beginning of winter, half way through winter and then beginning of summer.

Brake fluid change every 2 years, I do mine pretty much every year, not a hard or expensive job.

Sintered pads have metal in them, this causes a rust fur on the disc which rubs off after the wheel has turned a few times under braking.

Leave it stood for longer and it will be considerably more 'stuck' and take slightly longer to clear. For some reason my Zed doesn't tend to have these problems as a rule, mebbe they're better quality sintered pads or discs - no idea.

Try taking the sharp edges off the friction material on both pads, by filing a small chamfer all the way round.

Also clean-up any rough spots around the edges of the pad back plates, where they make contact with the caliper - and use copper grease where the backs of the pads make contact with the pistons.
