 |
|
Hey guys,
For my first post, I wanted to ask if anyone has any experience using their iPhone for your sat nav needs. I have an iPhone 5S and I want a solution for a case that will house my phone, an external battery (I wish to use https://www.amazon.co.uk/Jackery%C2%AE-Premium-Portable-12000mAh-External/dp/B00AANQLRI) safely & securely (which hopefully means a snug fit) getting the voice directions in my ear so I can keep my eyes on the road via Bluetooth preferably.
I was hoping someone here had experience doing this and would recommend the mount, case, headphones etc. so that I don't have to waste time or money experimenting.
Thanks a lot for any assistance. ____________________ New to the forum and new to two wheels generally. Any advice/help is appreciated. |

Better still buy a helmet with bluetooth built in. So much better as you get a mike for calls and the speakers are built into the helmet.
Then simply keep your phone in your pocket or topbox if you have one. ____________________ Just because my bike was A DIVVY, does not mean i am...... |

I use my Samsung Galaxy with a cheap handlebar phone holder using Co pilot. i have a Viper bluetooth helmet and a power take off on the bike for the phone. This setup works a treat for me and cost very little. HTH. |

Wow, thanks for all the replies guys.
@mailee Thanks, cost is definitely a concern for a lowly student like myself!
@BodyGuard Well I'm definitely considering that for various reasons but as I said previously, I am a poor student. I have a pretty awesome data allowance so I'm not too worried since I'll only use the maps live occasionally, see iooi's post for why.
@DoohanFan Thanks. I think I'll use the Google maps app since it has a few extra features but otherwise this is generally my intention. Which headphones and how do you deal with battery concerns?
@iooi Thank you so much for this, I'm glad you said this or I might have had to reconsider a dedicated unit. The scooter (yes, I wrote scooter and no unfortunately I am not going to get a bike at this time) actually has a "glove box" of some description with a power source in it for my phone so now my only concern is an audio solution. ____________________ New to the forum and new to two wheels generally. I have used an iPhone with the 'Nav Free' app. Country maps are downloaded and stored on the phone, so it doesn't use your data allowance whilst running.
When I used it on the bike, I used to pop out the sim card, so I didn't get interrupted by incoming calls whilst riding, keeping the phone in my top pocket and using the wired ear-piece for directions. ____________________ Honda Varadero XL125(V8)

Get Lost.
No not being rude.. but GET LOST! Its FUN!
Between my daughter, son, step-son & missus, even my bludy mother now!.. all sat around with under-chin lighting devices, every-one is 'talking' yet no-one says a word.... and interrupting the silence with "Would any-one like a cuppa?" results in an array of blank, under-chin-lit stares, of incomprehension, as though I am talking a foreign language... and a long delay, as they ask their phone the answer, before they can reply!
PUT THE FUCKING THING DOWN, for twenty minutes and spend some time in the real world! SERIOUSLY! Break the dependency; you will still be able to breath, if you don't reply to that latest tweet status update or snap-chat, instantly!
You do NOT need, 'Sat-Nav' on a motorcycle... you don't need sat nav in a car! Read a MAP, look at street signs, pay attention to THE ROAD AROUND YOU, and making your own decisions, not following the mindless orders of a fucking machine! (its very liberating!)
And be prepared to GET LOST... and when you do, just call it an 'adventure', discovering somewhere you may not have been before!
No batteries, power cords, inter-connects, data-allowances, brackets, cases, or other paraphernalia are required! No money need be spent; no holes drilled; no 'problems' made, to solve a NON-Problem! ____________________ My Webby'Tef's-tQ, loads of stuff about my bikes, my Land-Rovers, and the stuff I do with them!

OTT.
OP I find in - ear earphones work best. |
That's what I'm thinking. Any suggestions of brands you've tried? I intend to do a little research on the matter & hopefully I'll find a good pair for not too much.

I appreciate that & generally, I agree. Unfortunately, there are times when you need to go somewhere new for a specific time (particularly bad when it's early in the morning so you really have no time to spare) when beginning an adventure is not opportune.
Besides, it's a busy world now; everyone is always busy including myself unfortunately. Most of my trips at the minute are quite utilitarian not epicurean. ____________________ New to the forum and new to two wheels generally. Any advice/help is appreciated. |

Getting lost when you need to be at specfic place at a specfic time for a job isn't fun in the slightest.
Not everyone can live off benefits. |
