I tried it and its counterparts - of the Suzuki the Yamaha and the Honda CB1300 the Honda wins for me.

XJR1300 next up probably - but couldn't decide if a bandit 12 would do everything just as well apart from look retro pretty.

Not a bad bike - just very different from a sports tourer I'm used to

Probably slightly cheaper to buy than the CB1300. Brand new (not latest model) can be had for £7,500 from several dealers and I saw a mint 3 year old black one yesterday (2000 mls) privately for £5k.

I had a brief go on one a while back. Ok, not spectacular in any way. Comfy, flexible motor, handled ok for what it is. I like the look in SP colours, but wouldn't be my first choice in any category really. What's got you looking at these?

ZRX1100/1200

Feels slightly less barge like with a much more peppy engine.

The XJR is good mind and will do corners and miles quite happily. They are quite wide so get a sit on one before you jump in and buy.

i quite like the old school look of it really especially the round headlight.

granted i haven't ridden many bikes, but the last one i tried other than my own had me walking like John Wayne after 10mins (Srad)

Engine is from the fj1200, but slightly restricted. Replace the inlet rubbers with fj1200 items for full poke.

Finish is OK, as is handling. It is however very top heavy, be aware, but once moving is very neutral. Brakes are good.

Bit heavier than a bandit 12. Mammoth engine soft in standard form, pipe, inlet rubbers, ignition advancers and a dyno jet kit make them about as fast to the ton as anything you are likely to find. Handle heavy as they are. Avoid the 'fauxhlins' shocks and if you end up with one swap them for something with more damping, like a moist box of kleenex.

Look good though. Carb models are better with a smoother power delivery.

Yep, they definitely have that classic muscle-bike look, and I've seen a few that have had some nice mods to take that even further. It's funny, I was going to say not to choose a bike on looks alone, but it's something that has definitely swayed me in the past. Maybe I've been lucky in that whatever I went for turned out to be pretty good, or maybe I just don't know the difference Laughing

But good sense says think about what you want to use your bike for first, narrow down to the suitable candidates, then maybe let looks play a part. (You know what they say: don't do as I do... Rolling Eyes)
