Hello people of the BCF internets.

I posted asking for a bit of help some time ago in 'The workshop', although it appears to be somewhat lifeless over there at times.

My '99 Hornet is having some health issues;

A few months ago, whilst riding to H's Cafe, i got a hole in my radiator, i didn't have any spare money for a new radiator at the time, and so i bought 'radweld gold plus', or whatever it is called, and put that in after flushing the system and using new coolant. Since then the bike seemed to heat up a lot quicker than it did before, and it also pisses coolant from the overflow pipe when the temp gauge gets near the red.

It is possible the hole was there for a while before i noticed it, and so the bike could have been running with a very low level of coolant for some time.

I have left it in the garage since December, as i became a car fag for a while, however i now want to get it sorted properly, so does anyone know what the root cause could be?

My thoughts are;
-Radiator needs replacing
-blockage somewhere
- Headgasket (Hope this is not the case)
- Water pump failure

You'll have to flush it out with a jetwash several times as it activates on contact with air, so over time the smaller water veins get blocked.

The rad weld didn't block somewhere else in your cooling system did it? Because of it pissing out of the overflow, that's what I'd suggest. I could be very wrong though.

I think i have cracked it, i took the thermostat out and it was coated with rad weld and was knackered, i ran it with no stat, and it has sat running on my drive for 25 minutes. No over heating and no leaking Smile
