I have a kawasaki 636 2003 B1H model with just over 18,000 miles on the clock and the engine is making a loud ticking noise from the front right of the engine while its cold but then gets less noise when the engine heated up so im guessing the cam chain is rattling around.

usually i would just do the one click trick, where you pull the auto cam chain tensioner out one more tooth and stick it back into the engine and voila the noise goes away...

but i was just wondering why am i having to do that, and why hasnt my auto tensioner done its job and jumped another tooth out yet if the chain is loose? obviously i dont need a new chain as the bike had reletively low mileage and the tensioner on inspection isnt even half way out of its housing!? Confused

Heres a video of the noise https://vid1148.photobucket.com/albums/o564/pixelguyy/VID_20150401_144658_zpsc2fsxnl9.mp4
