Hi all,

I've got a fault in a lambda sensor on my bike (ktm 990). I've just bought the thing so have a 3 month warranty, but, the dealer cant look at it until 2 weeks time.

I need to ride the bike and would likely do about 500 miles in that time, its my only form of transport.

I've discovered that what I think is the wire, is damaged. All 4 wires in the little heat shrunk group are damaged to thier cores although not cut right through.

Will I do any damage to the bike riding it like this?

Should I be trying to crimp in new sections of wire to keep me going?

Any advice would be great as I am in no way good with wiring.

Thanks

Better ask the dealer. If you 'repair' it they might claim tampering as the cause. 4-wire sensors aren't expensive, why not cost up a new one and simply ask them if they will supply.

Not a bad Idea, Although I expect it to be a right big job getting in there to replace it. Looks like a minimum of plastics and fuel tank off.

Pretty annoyed with the dealer to be honest. But, I guess iif he's got no workshop in, then other peoples jobs booked in, then theres not a lot he can do.

Tell him if he can't do it sooner you will take it somewhere else who can and invoice him for the work.

Oh, right. Should scroll to the end before posting.

But doubly that. I'd suspect that you're being dicked around and they're trying to run out the clock on the "warranty".

When you say "heat shrinked connections" can you post a pic as I suspect any heat shrinked connections to be an aftermarket sensor connection using an of the shelf lamda sensor as the KTM 990 has a plug connector, Are the wires mechanically damaged or corroded?

Is the bike running badly? Are you actually certain that is the one and only fault?
