I have 3 bikes I want to insure for this year, I would have 4 years NCB when current insurance lapses but I'm am currently involved in a pending claim which means I only have 1 year to spend for the time being.

Here are the best quotes for my bikes...any advice on how I can make it cheaper, or a smart way to still have 3 bikes?

Forgot to mention, I can't be quoted on any multibike policy I have tried...

I had to double check where the decimal places where. Shocked

Move out of London?

God knows, you're already so far from what I'd consider reasonable. Bigger excess? Higher/lower mileage? List security? List without security?

Me, I reckon I'd flog at least two, and get something so cheap it's not worth claiming. What I'd definitely not do is consider carefully if I could get my driving license re-addressed to somewhere less Londony, then get insurance to match that address.

Get a quote for 4 years NCB with no accident.

Then send the difference to the solicitors for your claim also Thumbs Up

That is exactly what I thought.

Why can you not multibike it, have you tried phoning rather than just online?

Steep, steep premiums those are. Going for TPO does not always bring the price down.

Personally I would SORN 2 and ride 1, then rotate in a 3 year cycle until the premiums dropped.

Doing, in August! For a year, I'm moving to Northampton..not really much better is it...

I have done all with almax, thatcham approved security and with about 5000 miles.

What do the terms and conditions (and law) say, regarding having a bike stored overnight in somewhere safe, out of London, but you end up by chance staying over your "mates" house in London almost every night for the year...

To Matt, I couldn't get quotes online anywhere, and was on the phone this morning for 2 hours talking to several companies, all of whom cannot quote due to at least one of:
Age
Postcode
Parking
Bikes

Can you SORN the Ducati & Bandit and keep them in someones garage, preferably outside London and chained together? Then get muchos creative with quotes for the two fiddy. Wink Set up a new 'profile' for comparison sites with a different name, address in your postcode, different DOB but making you the same age and with the same NCB / points etc. Same bike but don't put the reg number in, select make, model and year and very similar date you acquired it on. Is there another honest way to describe your occupation and/or the sector you work in?

Do not run loads of 'different' quotes / scenarios using your own actual personal details. Wink

That includes the £20 broker fee though, so when you look at it that way...

Where do you live, Crimea? Syria? Laughing

I can get insurance on a brand new R3 for 500 quid a year fully comp with having a had an A2 licence for a month and 1 year of NCB at 22. I don't have a licence but still, you have a look about and stuff don't you?

Yer gettin' mugged. That's ridiculous.

My condolences Thumbs Down

Can you not add loads of named riders who have more NCB or something on your policy? All joking aside that's ridiculous money for insurance, it's cheaper to not bother and just pay the fine when you get pulled.

That is about the levels when you start to think "You know, if a bit were to snap off the number plate and render it unreadable..." or "I see foreign plates around here all the time".

BillyJ wrote:

Try without. I jest not. My best price on Ze Beemer was 1/3rd higher with security listed. Don't assume any sort of sense from insurance quotes. Also try garaged / driveway / street, and radically higher and lower mileages.

Fraud. Don't do it. Definitely don't ensure that you can produce bills and a V5C and driving license for the insured address.

Straight up though, they're pretty much saying that they don't want your business. Sad

Just tried that... interesting but not helpful results

The Ducati stayed the same price when I added:
No security
Up to 15000 Miles a year
Left on the road outside

I suspect that the Ducati price stayed the same because they just expect to pay out for it regardless of what you do for security or mileage Smile

Frustratingly mental, isn't it? Brick Wall

Tried with and without pillion, SDP / commuting versus (why not?) business use? Heck, maybe you fancy doing couriering or delivering pizzas on the Ducati?

My vague understanding is that changing the criteria can get your quote run by a different set of underwriters who may be cheaper or more expensive than the previous set. My "add security, get higher quote" example seems to support that.

Are you really going to do 15k miles in a year on the Duke when it's one of 3 bikes? And why have 3 bikes in London? And you keep them all on the street? No wonder the quotes are so high.

Whack those excesses up - they make a big difference.

I think the fine is in addition to them taking the bike away.

Try adding me as a second rider on a policy and see if it brings the price down. It works for my car insurance - adding my wife, who costs more to insure than me, knocks a chunk off the policy.

My daughter has been doing that for 4 years to get a reduction. Just for giggles this year she got a quote without them on it and the quote went down nearly £200

...and straighten up again, slap around the chops and say, "dream on if you think I'm going to spend 5 mins putting all the pretend data in to get quotes".

Apologies if that is too lazy for you - when I did mine recently, changing the excess amounts made large percentage differences to my premium, hence my suggestion.

My goodness me! Shocked That is crazy, get quotes with varying excesses as already mentioned that will help. Parent ride?

Put my daughter on my wifes car insurance a few years ago when she passed her test at 17 and that was £1600, I had kittens but promised her if she passed her exams i'd do it. She's no longer on our insurance or ever will be again after she wrote the car off into back of an X5, but that's another story Smile

You keep the price the same Mr. 0 risk

But annoyingly don't bring it down!

ANDDD:
Hahaha, making it business use keeps the price the same... but brings down the compulsory excess.

Well, you've got until May. Hassle the insurance companies to settle the claim, they do move a bit faster when you call them frequently.

Also, if they don't settle it, add the difference in your insurance price to the amount you're claiming for while your NCB is suspended.
