Is the oil level as critical in the ohv as it is in ohc engines. Meaning the cg125.

Are you going to tell us now that you just checked the oil level in your new CG and find that there's none in there? And you're wondering why it's running shite?

What colour is the exhaust once you've filled it up to the max. level?

I'm not thick lads seriously, it's just I've doing quite a bit of reading on cg history and it says the cg with the ohv was built for the 3rd world countries who lacked maintenance, eg never checking oil or changing and other obvious shite. That's all, I've had bike since I could walk an I know the general an yeh mines got plenty of oil in thanks, apparently the ohc engines messed up and broke all the time due to not maintaining, so it was just a curiosity.

CG engines will shit themselves just as quick as any if the oil level is low or oil changes have been neglected, ALL small 4T engines need regular oil changes especially the CG as it has to work very hard to keep up a reasonable turn of speed, change the oil every 1000 miles max to keep them running sweet.

Well, there's no cams to seize in the head, no chains to go slack, there is that.

This is why I was wondering if your CG was overheating in your other post. It's possible that the CG has nothing left but lumpy glunk after standing for so long.

On the positive side, if you take the top of the head off (It should have a reusable rubber gasket) then you should see the rockers, pushrods and a big five pence size hole where the oil is dragged up from the crank case.

Turn the engine over with the kickstart while the top cover is off and you'll see what's going on in there and what the oil (if any) looks like.

Might as well set your tappets with a feeler gauge while you're in there.

Yes, they tended to be total crap from the day and hour they were conceived, not a lot you can do with a bullet proof engine that was in the real world a cheap budget pile of low powered crap but thankfully the Chinese copies have at least cast their engines with decent sized cooling fins to prevent the normal passing of solid matter.
