The user profile service failed the logon, Vista 64

I can't do the first option, because I just can't find those reg. files.

I also can not do the second option, since I can't create a new profile in safe mode.

I don't really want to do the 3rd. option.

You can fix it - follow the MS instructions to the absolute letter - you must look in exactly the correct location for the profile.

I work in IT and i've dealt with ( and fixed ) this before, many times and the previous times i failed to fix it ..... i wasn't looking in exactly the right place in the registry for the profile locations

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList

The key bit is the WindowsNT bit - for some reason everyone looks in the Windows subkey and it's not in there.

Well, it actually worked.

Although, it took me some time to find the exact location, it wasn't as it was presented on the MS help site.

If you don't use SystemRestore .... now would be a good time to enable it and do a known good restore point.

My experience with this is once a profile becomes corrupted, it will drop the location again and again.

And what Paddy says ..... get the hell out of Vista!!
