Shocked

No, my exhaust pipe.

Bought used can that's looking a bit dull and chrome/brushed metal bits looking brown.

How can I get the bling back? Any diy methods using household products?

Thanks Thumbs Up

Edit: Some pics..

Wet tin foil.

Honest, I'm sure I read it somewhere once. Something about a chemical reaction... Maybe.

I presume it's stainless (rather than chromed steel).

I think I read with my Delkavic cans that when they get that brown stained look it's to do with oil reacting with the top layer or metal or something. Basically if it goes off colour like that it takes proper polishing with some emery cloth to remove the top layer sort of thin, as opposed to just jumping right in with chemicals.

I really don't know all that much about metal reactions or anything so take the above with a pinch of salt until confirmed.

Also I tried the tin foil thing, it didn't work.

Noted. Having done some googling I think peek Polish is most likely to do the job.. Ordered a tin so we'll see how it turns out on the can.

I had a roadrider on the front when I locked up the front wheel whilst dabbing the brake in the fast lane of the M5. Just sayin....

Heard somewhere that coke is good for getting rid of the gold patina. Don't know if that's reliable advice but maybe someone else does?
Then polish it up with good old autosol Smile

Note the far down pipe opposed to the one on the left that is two minutes testing it in the garage I bought it from after being told how great it was and it really is.

This is how they came up with some effort.

Coke and tin foil i used to get some spotting on my yam chrome exhaust and it worked. Used wire wheel and autosol on the hornets stainless downpipes though.

Its stainless and will tarnish relatively quick where it gets hot.

metal polishes are just expensive form of fine abrasive, you only need to remove the surface oxide layer.

I've used brick acid before. Not worth the hassle of removing and buying new gaskets.

Got the Peek Polish and got to work on the pipe. Before and after results below. Must say I'm thoroughly impressed with the results, although it did take some graft.
