Hi i am a new rider and just bought my first used bike. I am having problems with the bike bogging down after you get past 2nd gear! First and second gear work fine! I took to used bike dealer and had the carbs pulled cleaned and new spark plugs installed. New air box and new air filter on it as well. He assured me this would fix the problem and now its still doing the same thing. Any help would be greatly appreciated it!

Yea, i know. i am really trying to save some money if it is something simple. I took it back up there and they are looking into it. But i am sure they are going to charge me more. Yes it has had some fresh gas in it.

Someone suggested changing the airbox would fix the running? Keep away from that person.

What gear you're in won't affect the way the engine makes power. All that's changed is the load the engine is under and for how long. It's either being starved of fuel or air, since it's had a new air filter then look at fuel. If it has a fuel filter in the feed to the carbs take it out and try again. Try also with the filler cap un-locked.

No airbox cover and no filter? How long was it run un-filtered and in what climate?

Check the hoses in the front fairing that go from the ram air. Thumbs Up

Thanks.. it was the ram air hoses that fixed the bogging down!!

However.. since i have fixed that the bike seems like when cold ridding that it runs perfect but if i get on it up to third gear the bike just shuts off out of no where and wont start back until like an hour or so passes.. any recommendations on what this problem is?

Never had anything like that on my J2 so can't offer an answer based on experience. Sad

For the purpose of elimination I'd try unplugging the ram air hoses to check that the 3rd gear problems are unrelated.

After that I'd start looking at electricals, hopefully someone who knows more about such things will be give you suggestions for which electrics to look at. Thumbs Up
