Sorry i know this probably is the most boring and most discussed topic known to bikers but am confused. Doing my cbt tomorrow.
Am looking jnto buying a 125 and have limited -after reading all your wiseful topics- my choice to CBF 125 (most likely), a ybr 125. Initially i was thinking of buying new, there is a dealer offering brand new cbf 125 for 2000£ mark (pre reg, will put on road for no additional cost bla bla) which is 600£ cheaper than market. Otherwise was gonna finance one feom honda.
I know ull all tell me ill drop it and likely i might, however looking at used bikes they run between 1200-1800£ for a cbf, ybr or even a decent cg.
Problem is does it make sense to buy a cbf for 1800 when u can get it for 2000 brand new?
If i do find a cbf for 1-1.5 k what if sonething goes wrong? Am not an expert yet so would t really know how to look into it in depth and i havent got any biker friends.

Bottomline question is how much should i spend for a used 125 and in case its a lemon what could be the damage financially? I will be doing 30 mi round trip to work maybe not everyday but planning most days.
Or would you buy kne for 2k?

That model is being discontinued soon, so the dealer may be trying to get rid of existing stock to make way for the new model. Certainly it's a fair amount off the list price and situations like that are good times to drive a hard bargain.

Ultimately we cannot give you a definitive answer to the new vs. used dilemma you seem to be chewing over. The correct answer (such as it is) depends on all sorts of factors which we do not know, and other judgement calls and attitudes to risk which you yourself will have to make your mind up about. Luck will also play a part.

Personally, if it's a choice between £1800 used and £2000 new, I'd go for the new machine, particularly if the dealer you're buying it from is local and has a good reputation.

Just be aware that many, many people have said similar things about staying on a 125 for x number of years, then got the itch to upgrade within a matter of months. In such a situation you'd stand to lose quite a bit of money if you've bought new.

Any desire to go for direct access and onto something larger that might make the journey potentially easier/faster/more fun?

For both questions, how long is a piece of string?

As mentioned above, doing DAS could be a better option. Thumbs Up

Then why wobble around essentially untrained on an unstable bike of limited ability? Bigger bikes are easier, get there as soon as possible.

If you have 2k for a 125, you have enough for lessons and an old 600. The 125 route is dead and meaningless.

I think that only works if you say it 3 times, like Beetlejuice.
We're all safe I'm sure... certain in fact, no really. Shifty

If you say "time on a tiddler is rarely wasted" three times whilst looking in a mirror, teffers will appear and start spouting shit. Thumbs Up
