Chaps,
The screws on the top of the reservoir/MC on the other half's Hornet are chewed. I've been soaking plusgas in to no avail. Is there anything else I can do before I bin it? ____________________ Triumph Daytona 675 track bike + girlfriend's Honda Hornet 600

Try using a punch and hammer to drift them round first. If you really can't shift them then just drill the heads off carefully and use molegrips to remove the remainder. No need to bin it - this is quite a common thing. |

I just drill them if they are badly burred. Easy-peasy.
They chew up partly due to the crappy materials, partly because they're a water trap and corrode but mostly because almost everyone uses the wrong screwdriver. Most of them have JIS heads and most people do not own a JIS screwdriver.
A blob of silicone sealant on top of the new ones will help prevent water trapping/corrosion on either an allen head or a JIS crosshead. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”

If you file a few MM off the tip of a philips screwdriver they do the job quite nicely. |
I've done this and they do work OK, but I bought these last month
https://ruggedroads.co.uk/epages/00cbb604-5d1c-407e-8207-580e14387ec5.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/00cbb604-5d1c-407e-8207-580e14387ec5/Products/%2212705/6/8%22
There are lot of people who advertise them for sale, but every time I've tried ordering, they are mysteriously out of stock - this lot had them though, delivered in about 36 hours.
I've been asking all my tool suppliers to try and get hold of some JIS drivers for years, but they never have any joy - annoyingly, I got the new flyer from my Snap On agent last week and they've introduced a brand new 4 piece set
The upside is, they are twice the price, which is standard for SO. ____________________ Things get better with age; I'm close to being magnificent........
