Just thought I'd peruse some photos of Pan Euros after reading some of Monty's posts lately, never a big fan of the look (Not a fan of fairings for a start) along with the Pan Clan creeps such as my Uncle but I came across this on my searching.........

Think this would be my ideal bike do it all bike (reminds me of the old flat 4 Goldwing which I quite like).

I can sort of see the (rather warped) appeal... "Super-Maggot".. the worm that turned! Or maybe "Pan-B - I love it when a Pan comes to pieces'.... as for the Pan-Clan.. they could be worse, they could have named themselves 'Pan's People' (If you are under 40, you'll probably have to google to 'get' that one).

Having the big fairing off the front could possibly help with mass centralisation and whatnot, but don't take my word for it.

I saw one of these on Friday at the Newcastle Honda dealership. Fairly gorgeous bike. Smaller than I expected, for a 1300.

Well it fits my wants for looks (not going to sugarcoat it I like the naked aesthetic enough to compromise a degree of comfort, it ain't stunning but its acceptable to me), capability (reliable, good mpg with a nice flexible motor) and accessibility (I like to be able to get an engine for easy road side maintenance should I need too).

High speed cruising, eh I'm quite happy at 80/90 on a BMW R1100R with a screen (much higher than that & I'm out of my comfort zone for 'cruising') but I just don't like the boxer engine that much (or the gearbox), I also quite like the Yamaha Bulldog but it doesn't have the same continent touring reputation as the Pan (described as a bit asthmatic performance wise too).

I happen to know of cheap crash damaged ST1100 nearby too........

If something could be done to hide the ugly plumbing around the radiator and maybe replace the exhaust with a shiny stainless one then it might look pretty neat, it looks a bit of a dog as it stands though. One of the best things about the Pan is the fairing, probably because the engine isn't the prettiest lump hidden behind it.
