Interesting, under the circumstances I wonder might this be the first time a dead Motorcyclist will get any justice.
Or am I just being cynical for thinking there will be bias as it was a Police Rider?

It would be nice to see someone get their ass kicked for a SMIDSY but I don't reckon it'll happen, even for an on duty police officer.

Good roads those ... lots of nice fast sweeping bends but also a fair few blind crests etc. If she's found at fault i'd bet they throw the book at her.

What I don't get is with a SMIDSY surely it's either a case of they either looked before manoeuvring/changing direction/changing speed etc. or they didn't right?

So no matter what they say they're fucked or should be, because if they didn't look wouldn't that make it driving without due care/dangerous driving? If they did look then surely it's got to be along the lines of GBH/manslaughter/murder or something?

Basically I don't see how drivers can get away with it at all, but they seem to.

All the advanced rider training in the world can't protect you from women drivers Sad

This is the road but don't know where.
You might suspect the bikes were cracking on a bit, and were at least partly to blame

They may have looked but just didn't see.

Google 'looming effect'. I must admit it's happened to me before. Not saying it's definately the case here but I can see why it happens sometimes.

QFT.

https://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/FAREWELL-PC-2563-Tributes-crash-victim-Russ-Wylie/story-26332172-detail/story.html

"He went round a bend and collided with a car coming the other way"

Significantly, none of the articles mention any action, charges or investigation against Felicity FourByFour. Reports say near, but not at, the golf course junction.

Potentially this bend:

https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@53.745926,-0.124469,3a,75y,259.28h,81.06t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1sngdpbwtBZOGarQqD-2OkKw!2e0

Or this side, and look - Go Like Fuck signs (to quote T.C):

https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@53.73973,-0.135402,3a,75y,76.13h,73.06t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1szbtiiVVfhM9UwIQLeOCgjw!2e0

So, jumping to conclusions? Nailed it, failed it, ran wide, should have listened to his own lectures.

Respectfulmostly.

If ( and it is still an if at this state ) he was on the wrong side of the road ... you have to feel for the woman coming the other way and the Officer who witnessed it.

That looks like Shogun thing and the bonnet looks quite crumpled.

Junction of Daisy Hill Road and Hedon Road - notoriously bad approach from the other side of that. Tony Cook Ltd building in the background.

Discounting the misplaced attitude at women drivers (we all know men get in more accidents and cause more deaths per mile)...

The advanced riding seems like the cause of this one - "normal patrol speed" led to overcooking the corner and ending up head on to a 4x4.

And just to cover the smidsy - we all make numerous mistakes on the road on every journey. Many times we could, if all the other factors were against us, be in a position of killing ourselves and others. Do you think that punishing such a mistake to the maximum extent will make the world safer? Do you think that people reading about it in the paper will suddenly up their game? Do you think the person involved will be a better member of society after spending 10 years inside?

For me, the justice system is around to make my world better, much as I may want to give into my base instinct that revenge is good, my head tells me that society would not be improved by draconian punishments for the unlucky few who make mistakes at the times other factors conspire against them.

We don't know what happened. Its easy to blame the woman and the copper isn't going to say his mate was caning it.
I know a biker who got killed by a 4x4 but I'm not jumping to any conclusions with this.
As Daemonoid says everyone makes mistakes.Locking someone up for making one isn't going to change anything.
If she was to blame the guilt and trauma will be enough to make sure she never drives again or goes out and buys a c1

Thank you.

*uppity moment over for today*

I have no idea how easy it is to ride one of those big police bikes, but I did see one nearly lose it around a corner at Silverstone when we were doing the two-lap ride in at the MotoGP. I'd passed my test only 9 months before and easily tucked my little CBR in to the apex while this guy had a wobble and went so wide out he was nearly off the track. I guess the only people who really know what happened were those there at the time.
