Good afternoon all,

I’m 45 and did my DAS just under 2 years ago. For the past year and half I’ve been riding my trusty heavy RF600. Can't really say I’ve experienced much else apart from the Gladious I did my test on and my YBR which I rode whilst on CBT.

The missus has given me the OK to start looking at something newer so thought I might as well go bigger. As much as I love my RF I’ve concluded that tucked up and layed down isn’t my bag so I’m looking for upright stuff and a bit more mainstream than the RF (something I can buy a Haynes manual for).

I use the bike all year round on 30 mile trip to work and back. Only when there’s ice on the road I resort to my car. I also love to get out early morning on a weekend. I live not to far from settle so there’s plenty a sexy road to ride around these parts.

I’ve considered the Fazer1000, CBF1000 and the Bandit 1250. I’ve not ridden any yet so just going by reviews but the Bandit always comes out on top for sole and heart. Anyone out there with experience of the any of these bikes?

I’ll be looking to spend around 3k so it won’t be a new one but from what I’ve seen I could get something under 20k on the clock for that with service history if I go for the Bandit. The other 2 bikes are more expensive so a compromise would need to be made.

Cheers all

Gaz

You could look at a GSX1250F, should be in your budget.

Basically a Bandit with a fairing for a bit more comfort. Solid tourquey engine, would be good for touring, commuting or fun.

Mk.1 CBF1000 is well known for eating it's stator (think it's up to 2010) - apparently down to an electrical fault in the main loom that Honda didn't address until the Mk.2 model.

We're currently having the second stator in 18mths being rewound although according to West Country Windings this can also be fixed with a voltage-dump subloom on the reg/rec output.

Not sure if you could find one in your budget, but if you do take a fancy to it, is worth being aware of the stator issue.

Personally I'd go for the Fazer but in the end they're three similar bikes and each will do the job just fine. You seem quite set on the Bandit so why not just go for it? Better than being disappointed with one you don't really want.

I really do like the bandits so that's probably going to happen but sometimes you need someone in the know to just pause you for a mo and think. I don't want to miss out.

There's a shop up the road from where I work and they currently have a Bandit 1200s 06 with 17k on the clock for £2,600. Might go and have a look. It's an ABS model with the all digital clock on the right which I thought was only on the 1250 (07 onwards).

I know the earlier 1200 is air cooled with an oil cooler where as the 1250 is water cooled. Any preferences there?

Also, would an 06 be fuel injected or carbs?

Cheers again

Can't go wrong with either, but the old oil boilers are virtually unbreakable.
