Not sure if this has been posted before, In the US but the methods are going to be somewhat similar in the UK.

The idea of removing the clutch lever is interesting suggestion to make it harder for a thief to ride off with a bike.

He actually seems like a smart and pretty decent guy.

Oh, I'd still burn him, but quickly, not a slow roast.

That guy has some CRAZY stories, he was stone cold and willing to go way way too far. Probably why he's dead now.

He was stone cold then, and now.
I guess some good does happen in the world.

Quite interesting stuff. I wonder if Honda H.I.S.S. is enough to make them say 'fuck that'.

US bikes do not have HISS, which is a shit idea because the ECU is relatively easy swap (after the theft, not ride away). And they crash a lot more, so plenty available cheap.

The above worked better though before the financial meltdown, job shedding, and recession.

To some folk on hard times, any bike is a bike worth having since then and if it's free it's always worth having.

Also you've probably not taken into account when scrap metal prices peaked, that even the shittiest looking big old heavy bike is probably well worth stealing for weighing in and not riding.

Otherwise I would agree that in good times, and when credit is easily available and people are wanting to spend on non essential items, then unfashionable and rough looking bikes were once not very high on thieves radar's.

nah someone nicked smilers old bent cg

Some scrotes tried and failed to nick my old cg 125 1998 model (drum brakes) whilst it was ground anchored through the frame with a significant 13mm chain and lock.
There is a CBR600 kept down the street which the fella rarely locks either, takes all kinds.

I haven't read most of it and skimmed what I have been through however this caught me eye

Quote:

Personally, if it's rashed up, looks cosmetically rough, but mechanically sound. Say grips are worn, been dropped on both sides, but the chain is clean and well-adjusted, tires worn hard on the edges, has any signs of safety-wiring for the track etc. It's lack of value isn't what I'm looking it. It would remind me of myself once upon a time. I think that's probably all he's got, his whole world, it's not pretty, but he rides the piss out of it. He gets a pass.

my bike is safe, it look far to rough for any one to bother with

I'd venture to suggest that you were reading a post by a quite exceptional thief, and that the vast majority of bike blaggers don't think about anything other than their immediate or imminent gratification.

They're geezers. They'll nick anything.

I remember seeing this a couple of years ago....about a week after my bike was stolen. Did make me think about what to where and what to lock it with though.
