So riding home from work last night, went round a speed bump which i've done nearly every day since getting the bike and heard a loud pop, quick inspection of the bike and all looked fine. Speed bump is outside a shop so thought id ridden over a drink carton that had popped.

As i was only 2 minutes from home i thought id check when i got home, got off the bike helmet off and i can hear a nice hiss, rolled bike forward to see a tiny bit of metal sticking in the rear tyre, what i didnt expect to pull out of it was this:

So bike is laid up til i get paid next Friday.

Anyone recommend me a tyre?? Not too fussed about mileage but want something nice and grippy!!

Same type and brand as you have on the front would be a good start. Or are you thinking of changing the pair?

I was thinking of changing the pair as they are quite old anyway. (2007)

The bike had been garaged for a good few years before i bought it and although the tyres dont show any signs of wear and tear i might just use it as an excuse to replace them.

I didnt realise they could be repaired, might look into it a bit more.

Michelin PR3 then. Just put them on the FZ6 after recommendation by others on here and they were worth it. Thumbs Up

Pilot Road 2/3/4. I think the PR2 and 3 are cheap on oponeo at the moment. I put PR on last summer and the things grip like mad and take ages to wear down, the 2/3/4 are meant to be even better.

Just had a look on openeo, looking at £160 for a pair of PR3's.

Waiting to hear back from a local place to see how much they would charge for fitting.

Map shows you are not a million miles from me, up here the going rate is around £15 for a pair of loose wheels, it goes up a lot if you want to roll in roll out.

If you're looking for any other places locally, I used GR's sportbikes down on Bournemouth road in Poole recently for getting some new tyres fitted and Moore Speed Racing for a couple of other things. Both charge £25 a wheel ride-in, not sure for removed wheels, but they both seemed decent places to get work done Thumbs Up.

I replaced mine with some Pirelli Diablo Strada's I got for £120 off ebay recently - very happy with them so far, particularly for the price. Seem to be buyable for around £130 still easily.

Heard back from BLD who are up by the airport they want £12 a wheel for loose wheels if i supply tyres, their prices weren't too bad for tyres either as they give them at cost if they fit them.

Cheers for all your help guys. Ill have a look at the strada's Matt, what sort of mileage are you getting?

Not really had them on long enough to tell yet; look pretty much untouched after about 2500 miles though, quite a bit of which was motorway Thumbs Up

I was going to go for those myself but the PR3s weren't too much more when I got them. The Stradas got good reviews and are a quality tyre for the money.

How much life is left in the tyre? If it's a decent amount I'd buy a plugging kit (Stop n Go) and plug it.

Plenty of life left, but as i said above the bike was garaged and has been sat for a while and the marking on the side indicate the tyre was from 2007.

Was looking at the plug n go kits but they are only sold as a temporary fix not a permenant one and they say to limit riding to 60 on the ones i was looking at, need to get one anyway just for emergencies.

After talking to the tyre place i can get a decent price on PR3's or they were raving about the new metzeler m7rr's which have got quite good reviews. Only £15 difference between the two so will be reading up over the weekend. Both have decent reviews so will be down to what mood im in on monday.

Cheers for everyones help and suggestions BCF crew yet again are more than helpful Laughing

I recently put some Michelin PR4's on the ER6. they are expensive but the difference is very noticeable.

Got about 3.5k on them since January, used in all sorts of weather. very confidence inspiring. much better than the dunlops i had previously.

Mushroom-type plug kit repairs last as long as the tyre and are fine at speed. The tyre before last on my bike had 3 in by the time it needed changing.

Cheers for all your help everyone,

I've decided to replace them, based on the fact the tyres are old and i want peace of mind when im out riding, im going to buy on of the roadside mushroom kits just in case im further from home in future.

I was undecided between PR3's and Metzeler M7RR's but after talking to my tyre guy ive decided to give the Metzeler's a go, decent price and his glowing review swayed me. Wheels are off and booked in for next saturday (dont get paid til friday Sad )

After a few miles ill get a little review up Very Happy
