Taking Pillion

I am going to be taking pillions on my new bike soon. I have never done it before properly. I have taken my dad on the back of his ZZR600 before up and down my road but never on 'proper roads' He had some useful advice to give me like brake alot earlier, try to keep the gear changes smooth and get the pillion to look over your shoulder when leaning for balance. Does anybody else have any other advice???

Just ride carefully, allow plenty of thinking and braking distances between you and the car infront.

Do not try and show off as things will go tits up.

Ride carefully and only YOU make your observations, the pillion should sit still.

Don't over think it, just tell them everything you were told to tell them in your DAS training. It is not difficult at all, you will get used to it very quickly. But remember that if somebody is fat, then they will make a much bigger difference as a thin person would. Sounds obvious, but the difference in handling can be huge.

Just take it easy and you'll be fine.

Tell them to lean with the bike when cornering. And get them to relax and don't fidget!
Nothing worse than having someone on the back constantly moving around. It's not really that much different to riding solo in terms of balance and weight...

You'll probably not notice too much of a difference...
Also, you might consider inflating you tyres abit more for the extra weight.

Braking times do go up abit so thats worth bearing in mind.

I tell them to sit like a sack of spuds. Nothing worse than being leant over on a roundabout and having your pillion decide they'd like to be more upright and point at something.

If you have a bike without a grab rail you better get to gym to beef your arms up for braking. It can be quite arse twitching if you have to brake heavily, so just start off slow till your both happy.
