I would stay away from the 970 unless you want problems when you downscale or even use high anti aliasing and hit the 3.5GB VRAM mark. A lot of games lately are starting to use above 3GB of vram now that 4GB cards have become the norm.
I have the 7970 and it's a good card, but it is starting to fall behind now. I would get a 290 or 980 instead or wait until AMD's new series of cards come out in the summer.

Recently gone back to Nvidea cuz of that

Mostly I hate catalyst control centre and the shit that comes with it
Nvidea seems to have better compatibility and more bang for your buck

I dunno about the big VRAM thing, this cards is meant to be 2GB but shows 4gb in dxdiag, because it's DDR I guess (double data rate)

Pretty happy with this, my processors bottlenecking but it all runs pretty nice.

Intel i3-2120 3.3ghz quad, had it for a couple of years now
nvidea geforce gtx 960
8GB RAM DDR3 1333mhz

Yet to successfully overclock an ATI card without it shitting the bed

True but the 980 comes in at around £200 more. Do you realise how much coke and hookers that'll get you? Laughing

You could hire a hooker for a year with that kind of money if they are Glaswegian Mr. Green

Performance wise you should be fine to be honest Andy

It's really well optimized for low + high end computers.

If you want better textures you can always just buy a better GPU later down the line, my 760 GTX runs it fine on High Settings for pretty much everything, I can have Very High textures if I want and it doesn't affect the FPS at all with vsync on (Flutters between 55-60 but I think that's because it's not on my SSD ((Not enough space cus of OS and other user data shit, 120gb SSD, 70gb free but steam is retarded and didn't let it patch on release, can't move it back as Steam whinges about free space))) but it starts using 2300/2000mb Question of VRAM (according to the in game thing at least) but GPUZ says I never go above 1900, so I've put it down to Medium texture quality just to make sure it doesn't mess with anything... still looks brilliant to me Smile

Yeah mines like 2700/2000MB vram
dunno if it takes DDR into account

If it does take shared ram into account I have 4gb... 2gb on card, 2gb of shared ram..

Only thing that I see dropping FPS is the FXAA / SMAA / TXAA .. those seem to cause me to drop to around 40, NOT ACCEPTABRU!

Nah it's VRAM not RAM RAM

I turned the Nvidea TXAA thing off as it seemed to do nothing but make it angrier, the graphics looked the same

Same with tesselation

If your running on 1080p... I don't think you really need AA, Unless you have a absolutely huge monitor / projector.. in which case you should have "4k" (awkward bastards, why not just call it 2160p, resolution has always gone by the vertical not horizontal!)

Anisotropic filtering is pretty much the only thing that makes it look prettier as such...

OK so it's made my internet pretty much useless (even though it's allegedly 50mb), but I've found a source I can try it and will report back with my settings.

So I've been playing it quite a bit despite saying I wouldn't. Mainly GTA Online.

First thing I did was buy an apartment and a Pegassi Bati 801 (lol at the obvious Ducati copycat) and I just need to get that super expensive £785k car now Zontoro or something (fuck knows it starts with a Z). So I gotta bang out some more heists & races.

Graphics on mostly highest settings, quite pleasing to the eye. Might have to chuck in a second graphics card to handle some of the settings on maximum though.

Content wise there's more than enough to keep you playing, with races, mini-games and heists.

Vehicle customization is vast which is awesome.

Aside from that, the only real complaint I have is the fucking aiming is terrible. Anyone who's played a decent FPS like counter-strike would understand that having mouse acceleration inbuilt into aiming is the worst fucking thing you can do. Switching to raw mouse input doesn't help it one bit.

You should be able to off that setting but mouse acceleration seems to be inbuilt into the game engine. It's not that I'm shit at aiming, I've started getting the hang of it, but I'm now getting used to a crap aiming system. Your mouse should point where you want it to point, it shouldn't accelerate there or have any virtual momentum at all.

/rant

Still a lovely game though will sink hundreds of no-life hours into it.

I'm quite disappointed that I can only have 'normal' texture settings as the next setting up requires around 2.5gb Sad

Overall the game runs very well... apart from when driving along the road it's obvious when it has to load in a new section of the maps at times.... as the game stutters a bit.

Other than that, I forgot how sensitive the controls were

Gone exclusively first person. It's pretty sweet. Got going in GTA Online, having to grind levels to unlock the interesting stuff.

Had am amazing time with it the other night. I headed out for Mt Chiliad but the misty weather was putting me off, and I nearly gave up but decided to stop at the gas station near that airstrip from the other night. While there the visibility cleared considerably and I decided to continue into the mountains.

Once I was out there, I had no idea where to go and ended up driving all the way around trying to spot an obvious way up. By the time that was done, it was dark, and I ended up in that ABSOLUTELY TERRIFYING TOWN that is Sandy Shores at night. One hooker later, I made my way back to the closest place I'd found that actually seemed to connect to a hiking trail and went for it.

Shot a cougar, said hello to a few hikers, and the west ridge was amazing... even without an Oculus Rift, I felt like I was on top of a mountain.

Eventually reached the top, and encountered yet another NPC who calls the cops on you. He then ran and fell off a cliff, the cops, lost interest, and I rode a stolen MX bike down most of the trail. My car had by now respawned back at home, so I figured I would head for the nearby railway and hop the next train.

The train emerged from the tunnel as I approached so I gunned it and managed to land - and I swear I am not making this up (I FRAPS'd it all) - in an empty well car and had a comfortable ride all the way back to Los Santos.

It turned out even better than I had expected. Seriously. It felt like a real adventure from start to finish.

The possibilities are endless. Last night I’d managed to get every policeman and his dog to chase me. Went crashing into the airport, stole a helicopter and eventually lost the police. All was well and decided to celebrate by jumping out of the helicopter and parachuting down…ended up being sliced by the rotary blades as soon as I jumped out…buggar Laughing

iirc from an interview, the aiming was a design choice by Rockstar.

GTA isn't primarily a first person shooter and it shouldn't feel like one, the slight inaccuracy and lack of response is there to fit with the game, apparently.

Just disable the stupid warning box that comes up, it's at the top of the graphics settings IIRC

You can crank it as high as you want, whether your pc likes it or not is a different question, mines a good 700MB over and runs sweet

I'd very much like to justify buying this, but...
-£40 for a game I already own on Xbox. Anybody got it cheap?
-Anybody running online with a really crap connection? Or can anybody tell me if I'll have issues with 2mbit/s?

I'll give that a try thanks Thumbs Up

Dydey, I'm currently "testing" it before parting with my £29 for it (Game loyalty card points).... so far as I mentioned above.... the only problem I can see is driving at high speed sometimes the maps loading causes a bit of jerkyness.....
