My phone needs replacing (Nokia Lumia 625), I'm not interested in the latest, greatest smartphone. So want to stay under £100 either new or used.

https://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/2786559.htm?CMPID=GS001&_$ja=cgid:12504931010|tsid:59158|cid:200290250|lid:94813885850|nw:g|crid:56205785450|rnd:6002828146306173685|dvc:c|adp:1o1|bku:1

Does anybody have one?

What are your thoughts? Any downsides? Screen quality? Anything that it doesn't run?

I usually run some finance planning apps, MyFitnessPal and Endomondo, that's it.

I had the non 4g and the 4g ... for most of what i'd ever want the non 4g was fine and ran nicely on Android 5 ..... for the cost /size of it ... both were fine.

I buy them for work (bought about 15 so far I think) and they're great. Newest Android, no bloatware and very presentable case.

The G2 has dual sim slots too, which is very, very handy

Don't want to stay with Lumia?

New 640 is out - 4G, 5" HD screen for £120 sim free at Carphone Warehouse.

Certainly not, random reboots.

Power button internals fallen off, volume down button fallen apart.

OS itself isn't too bad, but the Nokia hardware is terrible.

Have the MotoG 16GB (3g version) and it hasn't missed a beat in two years. Battery life is good for a smartphone probably well in excess of 48 hours with light use/standby
It's on Android 5 now.

Just picked up a 2nd Gen 5" Moto G 4G today from Tesco Direct - £130. (normally £150 but £20 off at the moment).

So far I'm impressed. Can't fault it.

bought one for my 15 year old son after the last thread on here regarding good phones for the price

must admit he opened it on his birthday and the look on his face was "what the fuck is this" and I think he was expecting an iphone 4 or something similar, not the latest but something exotic

a day later he realised it did everything he needed and Dad had actually done his homework instead of stitching him up cheaply, he's on it night and day, youtube, texting, facebook, all those messenger apps that go way above my head and facetime, and lots of his mates now have them as they're parents won't or can't buy them £500 phones either

They are also waterproof at least enough to survive a quick dunk anyway.

Canny go wrong with the 4G, had one since christmas, no complaints....well maybe one, it does come with a lot of bloatware, I could resolve this by rooting it and flashing a stripped down ROM.

Sadly I read that rooting the 4G wipes all the data, and I really can't be bothered to back everything up, fart around rooting it, then put everything back on.

My point is, if you go for one, do that first thing before you put your shit on it.

I have the Moto G 2nd Gen (the bigger one, non 4G) and it's been fine. I only use basic apps - WhatsApp, Instagram, Maps, Strava and a couple of games and it's been fine. I was worried I'd not get on with how big it is but it's been fine and smaller phones feel like toys now Laughing

Bit of a hijack - sorry. Seems like a lot of people in this thread have a Moto G on Android Lollipop. How is it? Every time I've looked into it I've just seen endless bad reviews and scores of people saying to stay on KitKat as Lollipop is slower and has some annoying features over KitKat. I don't really want to upgrade if it's bad as you can't go back and there's no way I'm rooting my phone to change anything. I had a bad experience with rooting in the past and I'm just not going to mess with it again.

The only obvious difference with lollipop for the average user is how the notifications bar changes.
To acknowledge/remove the swipe away thing is at the bottom instead of top. Laughing
It runs just the same, flawlessly.
Something has moved about where before you used to get to sometimes want settings for wifi and brightness on the top right... forget how it was before now.

I ended up getting a 4G Moto E. And I'm very impressed with it, and also very impressed with android, it's changed a lot since I last used it.

Thanks everyone

Yup, Android is great nowadays, used to be shite back in the day though, especially compared to iOS (jailbroken of course).

I used a Moto G for a few days while my Nexus 5 was getting fixed. It is very decent for the money but quite slow compared to my Nexus, which just did my head in. If it's all you use I imagine you won't care one bit. Camera is also a bit naff. But for under £100 it's great, a top end smartphone these days is £600 or thereabouts.

I've got Lollipop unrooted on the same phone. Avoid Lollipop, the phone is much slower and very unresponsive. It struggles to do the most basic of multitasking. If I could go back I would, but I don't know how to.

I 100% agree with this!

My Xperia Z2 got the 5.0 upgrade a week ago. I hate it!

I got a Lumia 635 from work, my old work phone was a blackberry I hated it, it spent most of it's life in a draw with no battery Laughing

I REALLY like the Lumia, I have been well impressed with it and find myself using it a lot. I'm even thinking of switching from Apple to the flagship Lumia when the time comes. Thumbs Up

I have only had it a week mind, but it seem ace. Maybe give them another go?

I've got a 640 and I'm impressed too, for a pretty budget phone it seems (so far) to be all good Thumbs Up

Our Nexus 7 got it a while ago. Awful, slow, buggy, crashing nastiness Thumbs Down
