Hi,

I am turning 17 in a few weeks and it has come to the time where I need to decide what I am going to do and hopefully you lot will help me.

I currently have a MBK Nitro Jaguar 50 cc scooter and having been riding this for a year. I will be selling it and want a 125 cc bike, I have decided to do this and will take my test further down the line (6 months ish) and will probably keep the bike for a few months more if i pass.

The thing I am not too sure about is what to get, I have been looking at a Honda NSR 125 for months now and have being only considering that, but recently the idea of some sort of crosser has crossed my mind ( thought of that bit of word play in the shower Cool ).

If I were to get a crosser it would be used on the road for general travelling to college work etc but I would like to take it off road to have some fun on, so I guess I would need some kind of cross between road and dirt tires. But I aint sure what bike I should be looking at, which is where I am hoping you guys can help.

On the other side of the coin is the NSR idea, I would prefer this to a CG or other type of 125 for reliability and personal preference reasons.

I will have roughly £2000 to spend on the bike itself but will be hoping not to loose too much of that when I come to sell it.

So after all that what do you think I should do / get / consider / etc

Thanks in Advance Thumbs Up

yam dt125 or cagiva supercity 125

They both combine your nsr and crosser tastes, but the supercity is more road based.

my personal choice would go with the NSR, given that out of my few and far between biker friends, the one with the NSR is really happy with it, the one with the crosser pulled an insurance job on it because he came off on a roundabout quite badly. a few months later one of his mates was hit and died at the age of 17. on a crosser

obviously im not saying their unsafe, just that seems to me that theyre best kept off the roads lol

plus - lets face it - NSRs look a helluva lot cooler (i on the other hand must buy a CG or similar while saving for a 400 when pass test)

go for a crosser you wont regret it!

ive had a kdx 93 for a year payed £800 for it and its as fast (28bhp unrestricted) as any sports 125 and has very good road manners.

i also think an off-road style bike is much safer because you are easy to see and you can look over the top of cars when riding.

you can pick up a decent kdx for around 700 and theres one going on ebay at the moment check it out

I doubt a restricted DT etc will have enough power for real off road fun.

Find out how much the insurance is and pick the one you think is cooler.

DT. No wind protection. Little damage if you crash.

NSR. Wind protection. Lots of damage when you crash.

Pros and cons to both.

Both cool learner bikes, just a question of which one you prefer.

Hi mate.

I have a few friends with bikes, one has a 2003 Yamaha DT125R (up for sale actually £1500, 8k) in black, he bought a DEP stainless pipe for it, and if it's the only mod you do, i definately reccomend it, it changed the noise of it ten fold it sounds soo much better. Just about hear it at tickover and sounds sweet when riding along, but when it's opened up it just roars (in a 2 stroke kind of way)

Another has a 1991 NSR125 (again up for sale for £550 with 50k km on the clock + a full engine rebuild 5 miles ago) His is the unfaired one, so when binned wont do /too/ much damage.

Given your budget of £2k i would presonally go for the rs125, but thats me. For you, i reccomend a DT125R and make sure it's de-restricted and the powervalve is correctly set up. They are quick off the mark for what they are, and top out at about 80, very capable off road. They seem to handle the corners well too when on road. Also, power wheelies a good 1-2 feet high Cool

i had a DT125 and really liked and enjoyed it, then i started riding off road locally around a mountain, now 2 years later i got a RM 125 for off road and now buying a honda C90 for the road (i just got rid off a gilera fx 125) downgrade the road bike to like a C90 (less than £100 insurance I'm 22). If the off road thing is something your really looking forward to and probally get into it maybe a DT125 will disappoint you later on

just my thoughts
