Hi, first post, but ive often see the site when searching things to do with biking. figured this was the place to come to when i had a question that seems hard to answer with just a bit of googling.

i have a 2014 ybr 125. yes, i know its not the done thing to buy new and its basically a chinese, but i got a good deal and i have some good backing for it. the problem is its very hard to get parts for, most seem to just fit the older version. i had a slide recently and am now minus the windshield, with a cracked front cowling and fender, but it rides fine and the mech straightened it up for me so its now rideable, although i had an idea- would i be able to remove the cowling and headlamp to replace it with something a little more stripped down and easier/cheaper to repair, like maybe just twin round lamps? since i will have to buy OEM shield, cowling and headlamp mount if not. remember im a total newbie and im not sure how far i can go with 'customising' (read: messing about being cheap and practical)

additionally, where are good places online to get hold of parts i need, i cant seem to find anybody stocking 2014 ybr bits.

thanks for reading, considering and answering, any constructive advice appreciated.

Or a classic single.

Answer: yes, but it depends on the mounts. I can't see what they're like under your cowling. Have you had a look? Got pictures?

The other possibility is...

Might fit your mounts, might not. It also looks like the indicators stick out further on the Jianshe branding.

You could try asking Learner Legal, they're pretty friendly and helpful.

yeah, a classic single was my other consideration since it would be easier to get a screen to fit properly at some point. i just thought twins would make it stand out a bit more. next week when im back with it ill look at getting the front off to see the mounts/space available for aftermarket mounts (mine are apparently bent). then itll be easier to see what it would look like without the cowling. the back (front?) of the instrument cluster is the bit that im most unsure about uncovering.

To me, it screams "dropped", but Allah loves wondrous variety.

Take it slow, plenty of light, take pictures as you go if you're in any doubt.

haha. i suppose, though its something not usually seen on a ybr. does anyone know what wattage light im best off going for? the stock is crap, but i dont want to put too much drain on the battery by installing something way too demanding and adding heated grips. while im talking modifications, could i legally use a leo vince exhaust on the road in the UK? it says E marked but not approved so may not be legal in some EU countries Thinking . i just fancy something to replace the mild steel pipes come winter that can also give me enough noise to get noticed, it seems drivers put my current noise down passengers breathing a bit heavily, its so quiet.

Also, would any of these mods (and which) need reporting to insurance?

Don't over cook the wattage on the bulb rating. Many do it but it can and has in the past on a variety of machines melted head lamps, and because you are drawing more current any plugs and wiring in that circuit could get hot and melt causing all sorts of issues as they only designed them to run the bikes current bulb size not bigger. Unless you up grade the whole lighting circuit.

Many bikes are under light regarding headlamp wattage.

As for twin head lamps from a single lamp fitment, you will need to fit a relay. Use the old YBR wiring as a switching circuit and run new thicker cable off the battery to supply the lights. You wont damage any cabling then and you can fuse it also.

Stick with a single round chrome/plastic one. I brought one new for about £8 off and internet company for 12volt bulb. It works for me.

Sorry, I missed that.

Uberrima fides sounds like a Game of Thrones character, but is the governing principle of insurance contracts. You should tell them everything.

However, in practice, insurers tend (or have tended) to lump any modification together, so 'non OEM headlight' or even 'power restricted to 25kW/35kW' gets you the exact same bum pumping as 'added nitrous'.

Unless you're fitting something that materially improves performance, degrades braking or suspension or makes the bike significantly more nickable, I wouldn't, and I don't.
