| Gra wrote: | So I have been given back my 2007 Honda cg125 by my insurance company having been rear ended and the bike written off as uneconomical to repair.
I am wondering if it's worth repairing and selling or just sell as spares / repair?
The rear wheel is lightly buckled and rear swing arm bent. Front console is a little twisted but that's about it.
I assume I would then need an approved mechanic to register it as fit, new MOT and back on the road. Would I have to declare it as crash repair though?
Any thoughts from anyone? |
Work out the cost of the parts you would need, then decide if it's worth repairing. Beauty of little 125s is that parts are relatively cheap.
Someone else can come with the legal stuff about putting it on the road, I'm not that clued up and never had to do it before. ____________________ Previously owned: Kawasaki KH125, Suzuki GP125, Suzuki GX 125, Honda CB125 TDC '83, Honda ntv 600, Kawasaki ER5, Kawasaki ZZR600, Aprilia RSV 1000 Mille

Be totally honest about the circumstances with the new buyer - think about how you would feel if you bought a bike and later found that the seller had lied or covered up it's history.
I would even take before and after pictures and show receipts for any associated parts you have replaced.
You probably won't get top-dollar for a repaired bike, but you will make a useful profit.
You don't want to risk an angry buyer sending it back a piece at a time through your windows either. ____________________ Honda Varadero XL125(V8)

I've made one decision at least, I won't repair the bike before selling. The profit margin in selling as a cat c for repair as opposed to buying the parts, taking the time to repair and then sell as a repaired cat c is minimal for a 2007 CG 125. I will either sell as it is or strip it down. I'm thinking the most profitable will be to strip it down, despite EBay fees. Has anyone got experience of stripping and selling a bike in this low value range? Any and all opinions welcome, before I take my hammer and spanner to it ____________________ 😁 Don't worry if I'm talking to myself, I'm just getting a second opinion 😕 |

I'm in the North east but honestly, Might be worth just fixing cheaply (but safely) and selling on. May even be interested in the whole bike if you're gonna scrap/ break it
Got any photos so we can gauge damage and give advice? ____________________ Honda CBR-RW6 (Sold) - Kawasaki GPZ500s (Sold) - Honda CG125 (Project) - Honda CB750 Cafe racer (Project) - Yamaha FZR400RR |

Finally managed to view the assessors report. For some reason they have suggested replacing just about everything from brake levers and indicators to bar-ends and bushes. Reading between the lines the CG needs new front forks, new rear wheel and sprocket and swing arm . I reckon £150 or so for parts and MOT, added to the £140 paid makes a spend of £300 or so. Sell for £600 as a cat c repair so £300 profit. I could sell for more probably, depending how honest I'm feeling.
OR, sell for £400 as a cat c, unrepaired and make £260 profit. Not much in it really.
I did think about breaking but I have to agree that I would have to deal with a hundred EBay idiots instead of 1 and really don't want the hassle.
Keep an eye on Gumtree. ____________________ 😁 Don't worry if I'm talking to myself, I'm just getting a second opinion 😕 |
