 |
|
Made by Black Douglas, a UK based company.
There are two versions of the MK5, both with an air cooled single cylinder, four stroke engine with five speed gear box, using a carburetor and catalytic converter in the exhaust system. The motorcycle weights less than 100 kg and the 230 ccm version top speed is around 60 mph.
125ccm - 9.5 kW @ 7,500 rpm and 15 Nm of torque @ 5,500 rpm.
230ccm - 10.5 kW @ 6,000 rpm and 18.3 Nm of torque at 4,500 rpm.
As you can see in the pictures, other bits on the motorcycle were kept true to its period/era. Well, it is not a replica of anything that has ever existed.
The company also lets you choose the colour (20 options), panniers and other leather bits and so on.
A kit-bike is 4,500 eur without the engine. The engine is 750 eur extra.
A complete motorcycle from the factory, with 125ccm engine, is 8,750 eur.

Would ride.
Buy it while you can - in 7 months time, that will have to come with ABS, then fuel injection for Euro 4, and anti-tamper fasteners and Nanny chips to stop A2 licensees (nobody laugh) increasing the power past 35kW.
Although selling it as Tef's KITT OF PARTES might be their way round that. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

£6565 plus delivery, and whatever HMRC and DVLA stick you up for isn't exactly giving away a cheap Chinese 125 engine in a package that may be designed for aesthetics rather than dynamics.
Do want though. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Drum brakes with ABS, I'd like to see that, although they are just gonna put disc brakes on it. They could use something like CBX 550 disc brakes, with spokes, to keep the look.
The fuel injection could be hidden in a fake carb, like we've seen before.
I quite like it, but I would put a bit bigger engine in it, with kickstart only and with no battery. But with the DFi, I do not think those can run without a battery. ____________________ '87 Honda XBR 500, '96 Kawasaki ZX7R P1, '90 Honda CB-1, '88 Kawasaki GPz550, MZ 150 ETZ

And from that - could you just give someone a cheap Chinese bike and £4k to make you something similar/better/to your design? |
I imagine all you'd really need is the engine, which can be had from any of the CG copybikes for buttons. Then it's a few generic electrics, two wheels and guards, a tank, a seat, cables and some tubing.
Thing is, are there any UK based outfits capable of doing it, and who wouldn't go full sperg if given a frame-up remit? ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Engine is fugly. Gearshift is on the wrong side.
For the same money or less you could have something authentic and worth owning that costs piss all to insure, requires no tax or MOT, will increase in value if looked after and is in all likleyhood, less likely to break down.
A quick look on ebay reveals this 1932 coventry eagle If you insist on a biscuit-tin tank.
And this 1930 Aeirial Model F If it's more about the rigid single. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”
I did the 2010 Round Britain Rally on my 350 Bullet. 89 landmarks, 3 months, 9,500 miles. |
