It's been far too long since I was here... Havent posted since 10 Mar 2013, and even then that was only for a month or so =/

Sorry I havent been around!

New job, new location, pretty much a new life!
One thing remains the same, and that's that in 3-4 years, I still havent fixed my dear Tomos =/

Due to my new job, however, I'm DETERMINED to finish her, and get her back on the road before summer ends this year!
I'm not a teen anymore, so no more bodge/rushed jobs, with hindsight I was all to eager to get her going and often looked at bits thinking 'Meh, it'll cope' when in reality, it didnt!

Doing an itemized parts list tonight of what I need to get her going again Smile

Thankfully, the entire top and bottom end was done just before her final breakdown, and is FLAWLESS. Ignition system however, is the main bit that's fubar'd. Also, at this point she probably needs an SVA test as so little of the original bike remains.

Really really looking forward to finishing this project. I built her to fit like a glove and suit my riding style, and after sitting on the rolling chassis last night... it brought back memories Smile

Hope you guys dont mind putting up with me Razz It's good to be back!

Probably depend on who it's from. An "Interesting" from Tef might actually decrease your Karma.

So, seems she's going to need a new flywheel and stator, surprised the crank taper is untouched in all fairness, Ignition side engine cover is damaged, but crank-cases are solid and unharmed.

I'm missing about 12 bolts from the bike in total (Lost a bag of them in the move out)

Shorter suspension is needed on the back, the 320mm adjustables on the back are just WAY too high, probably a 280mm would be better

Forks are slightly pitted and are too weak in general to handle the power (Not that I seemed to care as a teenager, but I've come to realise I'm not made of steel!) so these will need uprating.

Cheap shoddy clone Dellorto PHBG 19.5mm carb is just plain naff and really needs to be replaced for an authentic part.
After all this, she should be fairly sound! But I may just clean the tank and reseal to be on the safe side (She's an early A reg after all Razz)

I was thinking of doing that, but didnt think there would be much interest in it in all fairness!

Lets just say life got a bit intense for 2 years, and my priorities were wrong (As in, bikes weren't number 1 anymore)

Just to get the juices flowing... This is the offending article in her last running state Wink (Currently she's broken down into seperate bits =/)

Bare in mind that there are strip and builds of all sorts of things, from a corker of a van project, through multiple conversions to a mental ped, there is no reason why not, any build is worth a look, even if it is just to spend lunchtime drinking coffee and having a squint to pass the time.

BTW, kind of cute in retro sort of way, a mate had one years ago and ragged it everywhere until he passed his test, then his little brother did the same until it got nicked.

keep it going and enjoy

There's something magical to me about a riced up small bike.
Sure, I can ride bigger bikes and all that, but there's a sense of thrill in 2 ways for me
1. The looks and underestimation the bike gets. She's pretty quick and gets up to 60 nicely (Then runs out of gearing...) so it's great for pissing off lads on their 125's and she's also very responsive in corners due to her weight (About 42kg wet weight) which makes her very flickable.

2. Having a big bike means you easily keep up and can overtake everything without really having to do much or plan much. On a small bike with limited power, every overtake and A-road ride feels like a GP experience just trying to keep up!

Also, I seem to have a theme for turning up to bike cafe's on silly bikes Razz

I'm sure if you think about it hard you'll remember all of the serious modifications were completed before one of its pre 1996 MOTs.

In all fairness Stinkwheel, there's something alluring about going through an SVA test. Feels like my bike's unique, one off... But I must admit, the implications are a bastard =/
