Suzuki DR600 'Supermoto'

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Suzuki-DR600-Supermoto-/221764498512?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item33a231b450

https://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/MTIwMFgxNjAw/z/HDIAAOSwpDdVSRv2/$_57.JPG

29 year old bike, notoriously difficult kickstart only, been fiddled with, minimal information about its condition, MOT runs out in June. £1000.

30... no, 31 watchers.

I don't get it.

Well I had one, before "supermotos" were invented, full size wheels with knobblies, got to say I thought it was a bike of epic proportions!

Wheelied off the throttle in the first three gears, whether you wanted it to or not. Had a couple of problems starting it the first couple of days, but having just got off a, kickstart, 2 stroke, you would wouldn't you! There was a definite knack to starting it, TDC, decompessor etc, but once you'd sussed it, it wasn't a problem. It was fun letting my mates have a go on it, watching them, sweating away, trying to kick it in to life.
The engine on mine was, super, smooth, no, nasty vibes when cruising, WOT was a different story. The seat was, somewhat, uncomfy on long journeys but other than that I couldn't fault it.
It was a good looking big traillie, screamed off road, especially compared to its, lardy, succesor, the 650, when it arrived.

Unfortunately some low life scrote took a liking to mine and nicked it, I was not a happy camper!Twisted Evil

I still hanker after another and if that was nearer me I'd be taking great interest in it, I'd definitely want a hoon, sorry, test ride!
I could still be tempted!

Not sure... a friend recently picked up another DR600 this week for £160... To complement the other 2 he has. All of which were bought for under £550...

Lots of bikes are uncommon. I was wondering why there was so much interest in this mongrel version.

I think Sid's covered it: geezer nostalgia. I bet nobody who wants to ride it will be able to get it started. Whistle

28 of those watchers are people with a DR600 keeping an eye on what it goes for, and the others are his mates.

While we're talking crazy interest, here's a 14 year old W650 with the engine corrosion that they all suffer starting to set in:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/KAWASAKI-W650-BOBBER-CAFE-RACER-/261868354799?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item3cf891fcef

£:2930 and it's not met the reserve. Shocked

"its not going anywhere for less than its true value" - which appears to be about half what he's wanting.

Fantasists, drunks, shill bidding?

It really is Silly Season out there. Careful now.

First off, I do like them - pretty light weight and with a very easy to use lump for off-roading. You're talking DRZ400 sort of specs, bar the electric-boot.
I paid around £600 for a half-finished version (spokes wheels however, which typically are worth more) that was a bit rough around the edges and didn't run right when I got it.

Prices for this sort of bike have gone up generally.

Of course, watchers do not equate to a sale. If there was real 'interest', it'd be sold.

This has been cleaned and seems to be kept in ok nick. If it really has been, then worth it, I'd say.

Id have paid a bit for a nice KLR600, but though I think this DR is not much cop, a very good one has to be worth £2000?

Not many out there now, and as G said it's lightish for the cc and the fact they are road biased. It's easy to a get a competition 600 that's lighter, but you won't get a current comfy road miles muncher that is these days.

I wonder how much I'd need to spend to a get a Gilera Nordwest in similar condition to my KMX?

Wanna bet? Wink

Compared to DRZ's and DR350's it's an absolute bargain, literally half the price!

At whatever mileage it's at, with whatever service history (if any) that it's got? A month's MOT, that it won't pass with that unlit number plate, which has a vanity number that's doubtless not going with the bike, although the seller hasn't bothered saying that.

I very much doubt it'll be a case of pay money, ride bike away, enjoy bike for summer - I expect there will be a story to hear when you ask about it. So I guess that does explain the interest without a sale - it's been up on Gumtree for weeks as well.

They're just watchers, I list loads of things that have a million watchers to then sell for the minimum bid.

Well this one:-

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Suzuki-DR-600-/281680474625?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item419576f201

Went for £1630!

I was going to put in a bid had there been no interest, might have gone to £900, but the seller didn't reply to any querys. There was a, rather worrying looking, rust patch on the petrol tank, could have been a fibre glass patch, the photo wasn't that good.

Would like to own another though, that engine was so good, another day I hope!

Whoa - for not much more someone got an 02 XR650R - while I haven't ridden one, I'm pretty sure it's a lot 'more bike' for your money.
