A motorist was inches away from injury when a loose rear sprocket from a motorcycle flew through the driver's windscreen.

The flying sprocket narrowly missed the driver before embedding itself into the car's roof.

Pictures of the incident taken by a Californian Fire Department were uploaded to Instagram with the caption: 'A driver on hwy 101 had their window impaled by a motorcycle sprocket. It embedded itself in the roof, narrowly missing the driver.'

Does the article mention how the biker faired in all this?

Single side swingarm. If the centre retainer comes adrift it's off off and awaay!

It's not hard to understand when you see it on the bike. Nut comes off, sprocket follows.

That`s the rear sprocket from a 1995 GS500e, that special one from a few Saturdays ago, Im surprised it lasted this long.

have seen the aftermath of it happening on a 1050 speed triple, god knows what happened to the sprocket, cost hundreds for the new hub and the chain took a good chunk out of the swingarm
