The procedure from getting CBT to driving on the road?

Hello guys,

I am considering buying a bike - probably moped to have some fun and freedom, I live in London. I dont want anything stronger than just 125ccm, at least for now. I have the cat B driving licence but I dont have any motorbike licence. Could you please tell me what is all the procedure and steps, how long does it take and how much does it cost to get the CBT, then I need to buy a bike (used around 300 pounds) and how and where to register, where to go and get insurance, how to pay road tax and mot, and what these are even for? Can I use my bike just streight in the same day when I buy it and go to register or do I have to wait? I am not british so in my country it is completely different what I found on the internet, but never whole complete bunch of information. So basically what is all the procedure? I would like to know so I can decide whether its worth it.

Quick & dirty rough answer

CBT £120 takes 1 full day, ask for local recommendations for a training school.
Bike with a decent length mot must be minimum £500 you register it with the DVLA in Swansea
Insurance in London, I'm guessing £300. Confused.com or similar
Lid gloves jacket boots £100 on eBay.
Tax is about £17 from memory for a 125 you get this online or at a post office

I don't think you could do it all for less than a grand
