Problems hibernating since installing an SSD

Installed an 128GB Crucial M4 SSD the other day, and what happens is I click hibernate, the PC switches off, then it can be a bit random, some times it will instantly come back on, other times it'll take a few minutes and some times it will behave itself and not come back on (very rare that one). No me gusta, I'm lazy and hibernation saves precious seconds of my life.

Google is full of Americans saying get over it, it's a feature, hibernation kills kittens etc. Not bothered if it dies faster, it's just an OS drive.

With an ssd it's probably faster to do a clean boot and have all the crap you use all the time start up automatically at boot than it is to load state from the memory dump on disc back in to RAM..

I have none of these problems.. Just don't turn off my pc... Ever.. And even when I have too, cold boot up to browser window open takes about 15 seconds... You'll waste more time trying to fix than its worth Razz

Will it sleep instead?
I always found hibernation a pain and takes longer to wake than full boot sometimes.
Screen off after X minutes it won't use much power.

Most people recommend disabling hibernation and indexing anyway with an ssd.

remove the .txt from these reg files to enable or disable hibernation easily.

I have some for disabling libraries and to disable the desktop shortcut and icon cleanup routines (reguires hotfix too)

I don't use hibernate and rarely use sleep, mostly because some of my usb device don't wake properly.

Sleep does the same thing.

I just like hibernating for convience sake, my PC turns on via the keyboard when it's hibernating but not when I power it off, extra effort bending down and pressing the power button. 1st world problems and all that.

I had this issue - with the same drive. There are some settings that are causing it (Not specifically for the HDD) - Im at work at the moment, but I'll try find the article that helped me fix it.

Mine was constantly kicking back in after I put it to sleep, very randomly. Once I found the cause it's not happened since.

Doesn't seem to work for my set up. Again, leaving it on 24/7 is not a solution, I did that for years when I had crap Internet but really don't see the point anymore.

note: ssd firmware is up to date also, suspecting chipset driver issues on my motherboard or something.

note2: BIOS is up to date, AHCI mode wasn't enabled though, sorted that now.

I had the same issue with a load of laptops we rolled out this year. We are using hibernate and not sleep mode by group policy. The laptops would not wake after they went into hibernate

I changed the pagefile to manual. Set the lower size to 1gig and the upper to 2gig (laptops had 8 gig). As the drives are SSD they don't need the same pagefile as an OS running on a spinning disks. The problem stopped

I left indexing on as its used and after the initial index is done it has no performance issues

Turned defrag off on the drives to improve life of the drive (Some argue indexing also caused the disks to fail like defrag)

Disable Disable Superfetch & Prefetch

Nevermind, it's back to turning on randomly Mad

It was off for at least an hour but woke up and it has turned on at some point overnight.

The other thing that comes to mind is S3 settings in the bios.

See if you can disable them for testing.. Check what settings there are and tweet a little

Drivers can also cause issues like this....

Do you have a printer installed? IF so check your using the correct river and not a WSD generic driver. IF you are using a WSD disable it and see if the issue goes away

Check all other drivers are correct

That reminds me, I will go into device manager and disable the "allow device to wake computer" option for everything. I think I may have had to do that once before, not sure for which computer though. Also disabling all the WOL options for my network adapter. Not giving up Laughing

edit: the last option seems to have done the trick Cool
