One of the advisories on the recent mot on my gpz states that the rear drum is warped very slightly..

This is confirmed by spinning the wheel with the rear brake adjustment tightened up a bit.. it catches as it turns and then spins freely. Its not so much an issue at the moment as i can't feel any pulsing or anything like that whilst using the rear brake but its something i know i need to sort.

Is it replacement wheel time ? Or can it be fixed?

It can be easily fixed, using a lathe. Thumbs Up

I'm not sure if someone had a lathe big enough though. Normally, when it's done, the drum is not part of the wheel. They can even straighten it up, but again, I've never heard of anyone doing this when the drum was part of the wheel. Thinking

just checking i'm not being dense here. The rear drum assembly slots on/into the rear wheel recess and when braking it pushes each of the shoes against the inside of the center of the wheel? The drum isnt a separate housing that bolts to the wheel?

a replacement rear wheel would prbably cost less than getting it fixed but there is no guarantee that the replacement wont have the same issue.

Do you notice any pulsing or vibration when using the brake in practice? If not, I'd probably fuggadabudit.

If you're being super picky, any brake is going to catch very slightly at some point as you start to apply it gradually, because only Allah is perfectly round or flat.

So was Mr MOT helping you by warning about a real issue, or just finding something to give an advisory on?

i was going to get the rear wheel off when i do the chain so will remove the drum assy and check the condition of the shoes and replace them if they're warn out.

There is no pulsing or vibration that i noticed, at least not yet. I adjusted the brake pedal a bit to take up some of the slack before any braking actually happens and thats when i noticed it catching. Loosened it off a bit until it stopped catching and have left it like that. The back brake does work. MR MOT just stated the rear drum is warped and would need replacement wheel...

Will pop some new shows on and see where that leads me Thumbs Up I don't mind how the bike looks but it has to be mechanically sound and it will bother me until i do something about it.

give the braking surface of the drum a good going over with some solvent and wire wool, may just be caked up shite.
