Hi all, I'm new to this forum and in need of help!

I have a y 2000 GPZ500s and have upgraded it with forks and front wheel from a later version to give it twin discs. Having put it back together today it is not riding correctly. Difficult to describe but feels similar to bent forks.

Does anyone know if the spacers are different between single disc and twin disc models as I used the spindle and spacers from the original forks.

Thanks

Dave

Hi

It might be worth checking the parts lists on CMSNL, Ron Ayers, Cornwall Kawasaki, etc to check the part numbers of the spacers.

Assuming the forks are not bent I would suggest the first thing to check is how far the forks protrude through the yokes. Also that the forks are parallel (ie, loosen off the pinch bolts on the top yoke, slightly loosen the front wheel spindle and then bounce the front suspension up and down a few times, then retighten everything).

Beyond that, does it feel odd all the time? Or only when you are turning the bars (check steering head bearings). When cornering? When just turning in to a corner?

It is worth checking other things such as the fork oil, springs, etc. If the front end you have fitted is 2nd hand then entirely possible that the previous owner of it has used stupidly thick / thin fork oil, or too much / little oil and screwed up the resulting handling.

All the best

K

Thanks for the quick response.

I have checked the fork protrusion but have not loosened the spindle on the wheel, I will try that next.

I think it may be to do with the forks as it feels exactly as it did previously before I had the forks re-aligned.

It does feel odd all the time. Ill post back with progress.

Thanks

Dave
