Hi guys, my bike has been in the garage for the winter, went to get it out this week and it appears that the trickle charger(halfords) had gone kaput and the battery, which was on its way out was flat. New charger came but battery was too far gone, so new battery ordered and charged and installed. Now the bike won't start.

The fob doesn't make the alarm beep at all unless the key is in the ignition, but even when it does beep, i can't hear the fuel injection coming on. To make things worse , i can't find the red pin card for the alarm to input the code (if i knew how, and where the led is). So the bike is stuck in the garage. I'm more than certain it's something to do with the alarm, and the bike is immobilised.

Does anybody know of a mobile bike mechanic/electrician who could come to me to sort this? I'm in Medway in Kent

i shall try again tomorrow then, but surely if the battery can be recharged on the alarm, it would charge quicker than the main battery??????

Can you use the pin to deactivate the system ?

Disarming with secure PIN number_______________________________
-All systems are supplied with a random 5-figure PIN number. This
number is printed on the orange remote control code card.
*KEEP PIN NUMBER SAFE* as it also required to code additional
remote controls (dealer function).
-Familiarise yourself with this procedure.
1. Turn the ignition on (the LED will be on)
2. Turn the ignition off within 10s (the LED will flash with an even
sequence)
3. Turn the ignition on when the LED has flashed the number of
times corresponding to the first digit of the override code
4. Turn the ignition off within 10s (the LED starts a new flash
sequence)
5. Turn the ignition on when the LED has flashed the number of
times corresponding to the second digit of the override code
6. Continue with this procedure until the entering of the fifth digit.
7. When the fifth digit has been entered (ignition on), if the code is
correct, the system disarms.
If the alarm is armed, the siren will be sounding during this procedure.
Warning
If an incorrect code is entered 3 times, the system will block all further
attempts for 30 minutes. Leave ignition off for this period then re-enter
correct code.

also spotted this on a site,

"If the bike has not been used for more than 10 days the alarm goes into sleep mode to prevent draining the battery. In this mode the only way to bring it out of sleep mode is to switch on the ignition. The alarm will sense the ignition on and reactivate itself. Pressing the Grey button on the key fob or the smaller of the two buttons on the small fob will deactivate it. This must be done within 5 seconds or the alarm will sound if the alarm went into sleep mode from a fully armed state..
Let me know if you have done all this."

Abacus will sell you a new replacement for £155 they are in SE16. You could try THEIR FORUM for advice but a quick search suggests that without the programming card you're SOL. Some alarms have a trick for aligning the fob such as holding the button down whilst you turn on the ignition, not sure if meta has that feature.

If you want to just remove it, I might be able to help you with that.

i saw the same thing Pete on their site, but it says it comes with the things exactly shown in the pic, and looking at the module bit, it looks as if it needs a special tool to remove it. I'm gonna search for the pin code card, but i can't even find the led on the bike to count the flashes. If i can't find it do you think it would be hard removing the alarm? ps thanks for the offer of help

As above, does this help?

Exiting sleep mode:

-To exit sleep mode, turn the ignition on.
-Disarm using remote.
-If the alarm entered sleep mode from a fully armed state, it gives a 5
second pre-alarm beep signal to allow disarming before sounding.
-If, after the 5second period, the system is not disarmed with the
remote, the siren will sound

Neutral

Or just buy a new unit for £100 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Meta-M357T-V2-Thatcham-Cat1-Motorbike-Bike-Alarm-Immobiliser-System-Kit-/360917762950?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item5408600386

I had a Meta alarm that packed up on me.
The Meta has it's own internal battery that doesn't take any charge from the bikes'.
It has an approximately ten year life after which it starts to run flat, the first symptom being the siren (and blipping) packing up.
The battery cannot be re-charged or replaced, believe me it's pointless taking the thing apart, it's totally encased in a block of resin.
Eventually you'll have starting problems that for all the world appear to indicate a flat bike battery, or failing solenoid. They will in fact be symptoms of the Meta being on it's death bed.
The only options are to replace it with a new unit, or get rid of it and fit a bypass plug to the socket.

If you contact this company https://www.abacuscaralarms.co.uk/ they can provide you with a bypass plug for about £35, I've had one fitted for about a year now with no issues.

What does it do when you 'disarm' it how does it bleep? I had an issue with mine and it will give a bleep code.

1 long bleep is standard, and if you get that I'd investigate other issues as to why it won't start, kill switch, sidestand, clutch switch etc.

Failing that...

Simply unplug the old one and replace with the new. You will have to remove the security screws holding the connector into the alarm unit but other than that it will be simple. A garage would charge a minimum of £50 to pick up a bike I reckon. You could sort this yourself for double that.

I had to do this when mine caught fire due to water ingress. Only I had crimp each wire from the old loom onto a new connector as the old one had melted.

As said, 10 years life on alarm's internal battery. When that battery dies, you get all kinds of oddness. ON mine the alarms and all beeps went super quiet. Eventually you get to a point where you can't disable the immobiliser though.

Just swap the control box over, like for like. Yes, tiny bit fiddly as it has as a couple of screws which are designed not to be undone. However with a bit of fiddling with different flat screwdrivers you can force them to unscrew. New box comes with replacement screws anyway. Plus a couple of fobs and a new red key code card!

Some info on the job off my bog:-
https://www.beginnerbiker.com/2013/07/fixed-broken-meta-m357t-v2-alarm/

Alternatively, I believe you can just remove the control box and join up a couple of the wires from the loom that went into to to bypass it's operation entirely. I don't have info on this, but it sounds like Abacus have a premade plug that essentially does this.

Yes you can, however the wires to be joined are different for different versions of the Meta, and it's a bit of a pain since all the wires are identical black cased. The blanking plug's a safer and easier option, plus you can always plug a new alarm unit in at a later date if you want to.
