Thinking of buying one as a little dual purpose commuter but mainly for green lanes . Has anybody had experience of them? |

Iv recently bought a DT125 which is pretty similar to an RX125 and all the other 2T 125 Enduro bike, all I can say is do it
Did have a go on a RX50 years ago was alright but imagine the 125 would be infinitely better. ____________________ Current: Gsxr 600 Srad - GS125 - DT125

I've rode an MX125 and was massively disappointed in the engine, considering the RS 125 is such a stonker. But I'm not sure if it was restricted or not. It could be that the engine characteristics were changed slightly to make it easier off-road, less peaky and more tractable possibly?
I'd say do it. My TTR was bought as a commuter and for playing. Now my CRM 250 is just for playing and TTR just for commuting. ____________________ Current:1991 Honda MT50 (Soon to be a H100/MTX/MT5 hybrid), 1976 Honda Cub C70, 2005 Honda Varadero 125, 1993 Yamaha TTR250 Open Enduro , 2010 Road Legal Stomp YX140, 1994 Honda CRM 250 MK III, 1999 Cagiva Mito 125, 1992 Honda CB400 Super Four, Stomp T4 230, 1984 Honda H100s, 2009 Sym XS125K

I'd be fairly surprised bar the kickstart and the different pipe, that the RX125 motor is not exactly the same as the late RS125 motors. These bikes in many tests seem quite disappointing with a very narrow powerband and no more than 23bhp r/w which I think is emissions and fueling related.
All the Youtube clips of RX/SX 125's with full aftermarket exhaust systems fitted and re-jetting, seem to show a pretty fast accelerating bike in 125cc terms.
I'd get it anyway if it's a nice example, as like Knacker says once you've sorted it out and got it running right if it doesn't to start with, you'll be laughing you bollocks off and riding like a twat around town with a silly grin on your face!
I saw a DT125RE 2005 Stefan Evverts replica in my local bike shop yesterday with 1300miles on the clock from new. It's almost mint too, bar the odd light scratch on the plastics here and there. They've got it up for £3900 which I thought was fantasy TBH, but then it was parked next to a WR125X, which I thought was also very silly, as who's going to go into the shop, walk past the flashy DTR and slap down a deposit on a nearly new WR125X instead? |

hmmmn, I'm sure I've seen a bike that looks like that somewhere before!
Nice bike, but then I would say that. I think make and model are irrelevant as long as it's a 2stroke 125 trailie as you will have a right laugh on it It's guaranteed.
Adam is right though, we need more and better pics of your new purchase as soon as you pick it up! |

Looks alright for it's age.
I think, like Steve, my favourite type of motorcycle is the two stroke 125. It doesn't matter a road bike or off-road, they're always cool. I think it's the smoke and noise... ____________________ Current:1991 Honda MT50 (Soon to be a H100/MTX/MT5 hybrid), 1976 Honda Cub C70, 2005 Honda Varadero 125, 1993 Yamaha TTR250 Open Enduro , 2010 Road Legal Stomp YX140, 1994 Honda CRM 250 MK III, 1999 Cagiva Mito 125, 1992 Honda CB400 Super Four, Stomp T4 230, 1984 Honda H100s, 2009 Sym XS125K

not so sure about the smoke and noise now?
I only picked my bike up a week ago today from having the MOT and new shock fitted, and after just 12miles ride home, all my clothes stank, my jacket reeks of oily smoke too so it's in the garage and not my flat at the moment, and yes I'm talking about the jacket not the bike!
I went into a new build house the other day where the contractors had just been in to cut a channel out of the concrete floor for a drain pipe with a disc cutter. The smell of burnt two stroke in the place was overbearing and I had to go outside for a cough and breath some fresh air.
On my next day off, I'll be washing my bike gear with some nice fabric conditioner/softener liquid to get rid of the oily smell.
Maybe I'm starting to think a nice little XT/DR125 would be a better bet for 60-80mpg and less stink? |

I love the smell, when I commute in on my CRM 250, I leave the rest-room absolutely reeking of two stroke and it stays like that for a couple of days. It really winds up the others.
The smell of two stroke reminds me of 'pedding around as well, which was probably some of the most fun I've had since starting riding, when we all left school on our peds about five or six of us and went out in the evening just pulling up somewhere messing about for a bit, going somewhere else. I've not had the same sort of enjoyment from biking since, I think it's to do with the fact I have no mates anymore.
When I was sixteen, I noticed that the faster mopeds all used to smoke more than my MT5, so I used to squeeze some two stroke into the tank when I filled up as well as the autolube to make it smoke more, in the hope that it would increase performance. I actually found that after a lot of experimenting, it did in fact run better with a certain amount of two stroke in the tank too, I can't remember the exact figure now, but I used to measure out a tiny bit of two stroke, like 35ml or something and throw it in and it would go better, which I think means that the jetting must have been off, or the pump badly adjusted, but I never did find out why.
If I were you and seriously considering the XT or DR125, I would be looking at the 350's of each. Which would probably get about 60-70mpg anyway. Then, when you were bored of an XT350,yes, I am forcing you to get one, you could donate it to me and I could finally find out for certain if the top end would bolt up to the TTR 250 bottom end and give me a 310cc or whatever I worked it out to be. The parts diagrams look similar...
Or you could build that 200 up! ____________________ Current:1991 Honda MT50 (Soon to be a H100/MTX/MT5 hybrid), 1976 Honda Cub C70, 2005 Honda Varadero 125, 1993 Yamaha TTR250 Open Enduro , 2010 Road Legal Stomp YX140, 1994 Honda CRM 250 MK III, 1999 Cagiva Mito 125, 1992 Honda CB400 Super Four, Stomp T4 230, 1984 Honda H100s, 2009 Sym XS125K

I've got Tesco club points, so more fabric conditioner/detergent sounds the best bet for now.
You know I actually always liked the XT350 loads, thought they were a better looking bike (it's a Yamaha right!) than a DR350S. I've looked into buying one in the past, but you just don't see good ones any more! They must have been too good in the dirt in the day's when trick Orange bikes were still in the XT's ball sack!
The XT350 is surprisingly quick for a 350cc 4stroke too! It's about the same on acceleration as a very good KMX200 but with 5mph more on top and quicker roll on snap too!
I never thought of a 310cc TTR250 using XT350 top end bits, but I do like the sound of that! I personally always had the idea of wanting to buy an old TZR125 and make it a TZR350 with the XT's lump. I reckon it would fit and work very well too, and make for a 110mph TZR on a good day?
There's tuning bits like big bore kits, pipes, carbs and cams for the XT, so 35bhp+ I don't think would be hard work? |

Yeah, it's naff, it smells when it's new, but burnt just smells like any other smoker. ____________________ Current:1991 Honda MT50 (Soon to be a H100/MTX/MT5 hybrid), 1976 Honda Cub C70, 2005 Honda Varadero 125, 1993 Yamaha TTR250 Open Enduro , 2010 Road Legal Stomp YX140, 1994 Honda CRM 250 MK III, 1999 Cagiva Mito 125, 1992 Honda CB400 Super Four, Stomp T4 230, 1984 Honda H100s, 2009 Sym XS125K
