 |
|
So, I have a large and very round head. My actual round measurement is about 61 CM!! (definitely not inches) but so far I've only been able to tolerate 2xl helmets.
I spent today in a large motorcycle store trying to find anything that would fit... and there's pretty much bugger all. From what I've read all the helmet brands have been moving towards narrower and narrower shapes, and I'm at a loss as to what to do.
I can't try all the different helmets, because each one needs to be ordered into the shop beforehand, and it seems 2xl is... well rather large, and not kept in stock that often.
Are there any sub £200 helmets that would fit me? The closest I've got so far is a HJC IS-Max 2 in 2xl. But that still hurts my cheekbones, the foam may adjust to my head... but I'm wary of pissing away £150 on something that doesn't actually get any more comfortable.
Any suggestions? I'm in London by the way, and if there's a shop stocking the suggested helmets, all the better, I can actually try it on.
Thanks!
Edit: FYI, a flip up is preferred, although the fit is the most important thing.

Thanks for the link Marlin, but the majority of those helmets have been discontinued, or their successor has had the head shape made into a narrower shape... It's tragic really. |

I have a friend who has the same issue. He was turned away from his booked CBT as they didn't have a helmet that fitted him, even 2XL wouldn't go past his ears.
We went quadbiking last weekend, same issue - managed to squeeze a 2XL offroad type lid with a big chin gap down to his cheeks, but it looked awkward.
He has kind of given up hope ____________________ Yamaha RXS 100 > Honda CD 250 > Honda Hornet 600 > Honda CBR 600RR > Yamaha RXS 100 > Kawasaki ZX6R J2 > Yamaha FZ1 |

My equally comfortable and slightly cheaper Shoei Raid II is also an XL if you don't fancy the Qwest. |

Welcome to the club. I also have big round head. Sightly smaller then yours 59cm and wear XL helmet. I also was thinking flip one will be better. Actually when you close it what matters is the fit, means good fit full face is better than bad fit flip one.

This one is heavy 1.6 kg not my definition of comfort. I have read it is very quite - it does not matter if you have ear plugs as you should.Maybe I am missing something.
Flip ones are heavier too. Unless you are police or courier and have a good reason I do not see the point of the flip one for normal rider.
So far the best fit for me has been cheap MT helmets. Their are Spanish one of the biggest helmet manufacturer in the world. Although relatively cheap the quality and insulation are actually much better then many expensive brands.
I have 5 stars Revenge £80 and 4 stars Thunder £40 both are excellent fit for me.

Not sure where in London you can find them.
Helmet city have them:

I also have Caberg - it has its advantages like smaller outer shell and better visibility angle and observations, but the insulation is tiny compared to MT and it is tight on my skull on the sides.
Have tried Shoei, Shark, Scorpion, AGV - so far not good feeling. ____________________ Adrian Monk: Unless I'm wrong, which, you know, I'm not...

Some helmets are available with different cheek foam sizes if it's fitting around your jaw that is the problem.
Each manufacturer will favour a different headshape, often different models form a manufacturer having a different shape. A good helmet fitter will know the shape of the range.
