2001 honda cb500 ingnition barrell

hi all
my name is ashley and i am in need of some help!!!
i snaped the key in the barrell i have brought a replacement but am stumped on how to fit it i have dissconected the revelent wires and the clocks but they look like the barrel is held on by some strange nut. i dont knowhow to get it off.
any help woud be amazing

I'd take the bike to a locksmith who will be almost certainly be able to get the broken bit out and make you a new key.

Its highly likely the ignition barrel is bolted on with 2 security rivets/bolts.
these look like bolts but have a smooth head, therefore you cant remove them with a spanner or hex key.
its a security feature, to make it more difficult for thieves to swap barrels.
Im afraid they have to be drilled out.
They are like conventional bolts in that they are threaded at one end, so try using a hss left handed drill bit.
when it "bites" it MIGHT unscrew out. BUT I've seen them used in conjunction with threadlok so you might have to drill it out completely.

Get a centre punch and a hammer, use it to first gouge a dent into the outer part of the rivet head, then place the punch in this and tap it in an undoing direction. They aren't done up very tight and are quite a soft material. Replace with normal allen head bolts.

The last one I did was a 2000 Africa Twin, so same generation of security bolt most likely.

At the moment I have just secured the new barrel to the steam with a d clamp. Until I find the time to do it properly as the bike needs to be used every day!!
I think the centre punch option will be the best!!
