Mod 2 fail

Not a happy topic for my first post here but failed Mod 2 this morning. Overtaking a van on dual carriageway and a mini travelling vv fast had to brake behind me after I pulled out for the overtake. I was doing 70, she must have been 90+ as when I did my obs and signal she was way far behind.
Otherwise bob on.
Bit pissed but booked again for two weeks.
Felt I rode well but knew that because she had braked, irrespective of her approach speed, that I would fail.
Know what to expect next time.

As for Mod 2 - It's always best to play it safe. Next time, wait for a big enough gap in the traffic that you know you won't be obstructing another vehicle in. I don't think you will fail if you don't [have the chance to] overtake on the dual-carriageway, you may however get a minor or two but a pass is a pass! Better luck next time! Thumbs Up

Yeah it sucks balls that no matter what the other driver is doing, if they have to brake or change direction due to your actions then you fail. You might get lucky, have a sympathetic examiner and be given the benefit of the doubt.. Or he may be two cars behind and simply not see it.

No need to overtake on your mod 2 unless the car you're behind is doing silly slow and the overtaking lane is clear

You done goofed, suck it up

I over took one on my mod 2 who was doing 40 in a 70 and even then I gave it some thought before doing it

Agree it is just my own stupid fault, realise how important it is to ride for myself not what I think the examiner wants.

Useful learning experience, at least everything else was fine Very Happy

I'll just learn from this, ride more conservatively next time and nail the sucker then.

Booked for 5 June, same place.

The examiner is fine, no complaints at all.

Was there a need to overtake at all? If you're on mod2, don't give them any reason to fail you. If the guy in front is doing 65/70, that's close enough to the limit that overtaking is not necessary..

Once you pass, it's not such a problem, but as its something that will instantly fail you (causing someone else to change speed or direction) why take the chance Idea

Yeh I totally agree and that is exactly what I'll do next time. Ride for myself not what I think someone else wants.

My instructor had hammered in to me and the other guy sitting yesterday that the examiner will expect you to get up to 70 and overtake if the opportunity arises. To the point that during my last lesson the other pupil was leading, doing 60 and the instructor overtook him to make the point!
So the seed of doubt was planted, I went for the overtake, crashed and burned and next time will be happy to sit behind white-van-man at 60 and relax knowing that I won't be bothered if I get a minor.

Lesson learnt and as I say my own stupid fault for not riding defensively and trying to overthink the situation. Nerves can get in the way sometimes.

I am treating yesterday's test as a lesson so that I know next time exactly what they want.
