Now feeling a bit dejected about the whole thing... If one more person tells me a horror story about someone they know about motorcycling.

Surely there are lots of happy healthy motorcyclists about?!

I personally know (knew) more people who have died in cars than have died on motorcycles. Therefore motorcycles must be safer.

Fact of life. Everyone dies in the end. How are you going to do it? Pissing your memories away and dribbling into your soup in an old folks home or by grabbing life by the balls and screaming yahoo!?

On a serious note though, Biking is a dangerous pas time. Probably one of the most dangerous things you can do with your clothes on and it does claim the lives of many people. There is not a biker on here that does not know someone who has died on a bike or been seriously injured.

Then again a neighbour of mine choked to death on a fish bone. Millions of people still eat fish.

Man up and get on with it, do not be alarmed at the horror tales because there are horror tales in every activity. Ours is just a lot more fun than most other activities.

I could tell you about my close relative that got knocked over while she was walking along the pavement (by a disappearing uninsured driver) if that helps, Or how every car driver (including many bike driving car drivers), stop seeing bikes. But you could equally not see the bus you step out in front of, or the "E" number that causes the horrible mutations.

Or you could just appreciate that you're making an adult decision and you'll try everything you can to stay alive while you're enjoying yourself.

Yes, biking is dangerous. Other vehicles will get you at junctions, and if you ride like a cock you'll put it into the landscape. Don't let either of those happen though and you'll be undead.
