First bike

Hi!

im 17 years old, and i have always been interested in motorbikes. My parents are really against a motorbike so they said that they will not put a penny into it -_-.... which sucks


So i have to save up myself which is very very frustrating (been saving since december and im not even half way of what im planning on spending on a bike: £1000)

It doesnt even get better as all my friend ride motorbikes together :/


heres the question, i really wanted to get a Wr125x as i love supermotos, however looking around it doesnt look like i am going be able to afford it) so i was thinking of either a suzuki Dr 125 or a some kind of cbr 125.

what you guys think about those two bikes,

i could save up more, but its the fact that all my friends are on the road and im here sitting writing this,its making me really angry tbh xD

It is good they won't give you money to buy a motorcycle. If you buy something with your own money, you will appreciate it more.

Do not forget you're gonna have to buy some motorcycle gear and pay for the insurance as well.

The CBR looks alright, it might be the best what you could get from those 3. But I'd wait till I was old enough for A2 licence.

There's going to be far more hurdles in your way than your parents refusing to donate money towards something they don't agree with, many of which wont be as easy to get around as zed example. You'll realize that your parents are indirectly teaching you a valuable lesson in regards to having to fund it all yourself as much as you disagree with it.

Being on the roads is nothing but a major money pit witch (especially when starting out) requires deep pockets for many unexpected items needing to be purchased along the way to keep you on the road, if saving for a bike is taking you (as you see) a long time then you have to be realistic about being able to afford all the other things that aid towards you getting on the road outside of the bike itself, for example.. things to save for outside of your £1000 goal.

&. That's just to get you started, depending on what path you take (bike wise) then there are other things.

M.O.T - be suspicious of anyone saying "needs M.O.T soon, will fly through"
Services - can you do the basics?
Parts - costs vary
Fuel - can you afford to keep it running?
Tax - £17 (p/y) for 125-150cc

Within reason all 125cc's are limited by speed and power a brand new multiple thousound pound model in the long run has no real benefit over one that costs a 1/3 of the price, in reality whatever you buy is going to get replaced in the long run and the money saved can then be put towards getting a full license of which reaps far more benefits than having some shiny plastics to show off with ever will.

Until you've got the funds (for the bike) in your hand with the funds for everything else covered, considered, saved up for and out the way I wouldn't bother looking at the second hand market.. it often changes daily.

There's still a long way to go, don't try to jump into something to quickly and end up putting yourself out of pocket.

Also;

Don't get a 125cc on finance
(Not sure if applies because of age) If you choose payments for insurance make sure you defiantly can afford

The CH Racing 125 was my first motard, i would still have it if it wasnt for me being 18 and driving like an idiot, but if you go for that parts are very easy and cheap to Obtain but they're all under different name's for instance the plastics are off a Husky Cr 125 2005, and then engine is from the yamaha TTR 125 ( YBR, XT have the same engine) theyre made in italy using loads of different parts but i didnt see this as a bad thing,
if you do go for it though it tops out at about 65mph.
in my opinion great bike would definitely have another if i could fine one local i found the engine easy to work on its definitely better than the suzuki DR though those thing rust like mad and everyone says they feel gutless, i cant comment on the cbr but i did have a chinese copy of one and it was quite enjoyable!

Do your CBT or you're just fantasising.

I'd be careful about riding in a pack of yoofs - it's likely to end with one or more of you drinking their meals through a straw. Your parents have a point.
