GL 1800 wing alternator output?

Hello people!
Just checked the voltage on an 1800 wing, peaking at 14.7 volts with headlights on, New battery, old battery failed suddenly causing bike to die, was a bit warm but not smelling of sulphur. Back up battery was also no good, bike has split charger.
So, question is: 14.7 volts a bit borderline high? Or more probably 2 coincidentally duff batteries after spending the last 6 months on an optimate type charger?

Have put new battery on as standard with all added fairy lights and split charger disconnected and tested as that.

I reckon 14.7V under load is a bit higher than I'd like
I'd want to see around 14V
What type of RR does it have?
I've only worked on the GL1100 and that has the type with an external sense wire.
If this wire has poor connections it can drive the output voltage high
If its an internally sensed type, poor connections, especially grounds can push the output voltage up.

Why are you running two batteries and a split charging system. That's what I have on my canal boat, not a Goldwing!

My 1500 wing had every lighting accessory going and was fine, as was my 1800 wing so I'm somewhat confused why you have a split system.

Usually a split system is for starting and leisure batteries with an auto change over from the starting battery to the leisure ones once the starter battery is fully charged.

No idea why owner has split charger, its only got a few extra LEDs. that's why I've disconnected all the unnecessary gubbins for now
